Pedagogy
The activity will begin with the teacher reading the poem “Maggie and
Milly and Molly and May” by E.E. Cummings aloud to the students. The
poem will be written on the board to encourage all the students to follow
along. Then the teacher and students will read the poem a second time
aloud together. The teacher will then discuss the poem with the students,
making certain to go line by line and asking questions covering the
characters, setting, and ideas presented in the poem. The teacher will also
give the students an opportunity to ask their own questions and express
their thoughts about the poem. After the discussion, the teacher will instruct
the students about the assignment associated with the poem. The teacher
will demonstrate the procedures for accessing the online tool and using the
different features the tool offers.
With the online painting tool, the students will illustrate a couplet from the
poem by designing a creative, colorful, and expressive representation of a
couplet which should include the following:
The students will take a minute to decide which couplet from the poem
they would like to illustrate and retrieve a handout from the teacher. Then
the students will obtain their individual Chromebooks and access the
webpage provided in the handout. They will then follow the instructions on
the handout to assist them in completing their assignment in class as the
teacher observes and assists any student needing extra guidance.
