learning: Successes, challenges & outcomes
Author: Laurie Posey and Christine Pintz
Journal Name: Nursing Education in Practice
Date of Article: September 1, 2017
Summary: The Teaching and Transforming through Technology program was created.
This program includes higher and larger amount of information per class compared to
traditional Bachelor of Science in nursing degree classes. This program began with the
goal of shortening the degree program. In the end of a couple trials, enough evidence
was gathered to provide information on how to successfully shorten the time it takes to
obtain a BSN. The article was written to inform readers how to complete the task of
teaching classes enabling early graduation successfully. Another success within the trails
was the increase in technological knowledge. Student’s computer capabilities increased
alongside completing a degree faster.

Title of Article: An Evaluation of CHAMPS for Classroom Management

Author: Vernessa Evans
Year: 2016
Summary: When obtaining a teaching license, potential future teachers are taught how to
teach students material, but they’re not taught how to manage student behavior. The
behavior issues can create a distraction in the classroom for the students diverting their
attention away from the material. A program, CHAMPS, was created to study the
effectiveness of an outcome-based approach on managing the student’s behavior. After
obtaining qualitative and quantitative data on the research, a positive correlation was
found between effective classroom management and the use of CHAMPS. Although
both qualitative and quantitative data were important, the qualitative data was more
valuable. It was concluded that it was more valuable because interpretations of the data
to represent the environment of the classroom were more easily understood through the
descriptions.

Name of Article: Birthing Simulators Prepare Nursing, EMS Students for Labor and
Delivery
Author: Targeted News Services
Journal/Newspaper, etc.: Targeted News Service Newspaper
Year (must be last five years): October 2016
Summary: The Victoria Birthing Simulator is being used at Seminole State College of
Florida to mimics real live births for nursing students. The simulator is able to have
natural and cesarean births, low and high-risk births, and it is even able to bleed out. The
college adapted this program after attending conventions and understood how well the
Victoria Birthing Stimulator is able to teach students. By putting students in these
stressful situations before graduating, the future patients of the students have an
increased chance that they will receive the proper treatment. The students must pass a
test given by the instructors via the simulator before they graduate. This completes their
pre-hospital training.
