Each year, it is with great pride that I witness our graduating class embarking on careers in
the worlds of business, academia and public service.
The following pages present the CVs of the outstanding men and women graduating from the
Department in September 2004 with an MSc in the Analysis, Design and Management of
Information Systems from the Department of Information Systems, or an MSc in New Media,
Information and Society taught jointly by the Department of Information Systems and
Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and Political
Science. As you may be aware, the Department of Information Systems is one of the largest
and most well established of its kind, celebrating its 26th anniversary this year. More than 100
students graduate every year from the department. Our reputation lies not only in our size,
but more particularly from the nature of our programmes which produces graduates who
combine the depth and creativity achieved through extensive work in small multi–skilled
teams with the breadth of study associated with the LSE. This gives them a level of maturity
and confidence not attainable in typical Information Systems programmes.
In this document you will find some of this year’s graduating class. Without a doubt, these
are graduates possessing capabilities that will add value to your organisation in both the short
and long term. The CVs are presented in a standard format for convenient review and
comparison and are listed alphabetically.
I invite you to take the time to review the varied backgrounds of these talented individuals.
You will find that our graduates not only have outstanding academic records but also possess
a wide variety of business and technological experience. Many have already worked for
companies at a managerial level. I am confident that you will discover candidates who will
help you build a sustainable competitive position for the future.
If I can assist you in any way to address your staffing needs, please call me on 020 7852

Yours sincerely,
This booklet, designed by the Information Systems Society, provides prospective employers
with the CVs of graduate students in the MSc Analysis, Design and Management of
Information Systems, Class of 2004 and MSc New Media, Information and Society, Class of
2004. It is intended to be an information gateway for recruiters to the students on this
programme.
The MSc ADMIS course focuses on providing graduates with a breadth of knowledge in both
the management and development aspects that affect the practice and theory of information
systems. The core theme of the programme is the underlying premise that information
systems are not only technical systems, but should also be viewed as social systems. The
programme is 12–months long and runs from October to September. Details of the specific
course options can be found on the next page.
The programme is taught within the Department of Information Systems at the LSE, one of
the largest and best–known departments of its kind in the world. The department covers most
areas of information systems and represents a broad range of academic approaches and
specialisations, from systems design and management to theory and philosophy. It is
explicitly international and informed by all the social sciences found at the LSE.
Students join the ADMIS programme from all over the world. As in previous years, the
students represent around 40 different countries. The ADMIS programme each year also
enjoys an unusually high proportion of around 40% female students again reflecting the
unique character of the course. Students come from a variety of academic backgrounds
including management, engineering and law. Each student brings a unique set of experiences
to the programme and the taught elements of the programme are enriched by this diversity of
perspectives towards the issues surrounding information systems.
The programme encompasses a broad range of teaching approaches, from traditional lectures
and classes, through student led seminars, rôle playing exercises and practical demonstrations
which allows them to achieve intellectual flexibility and the ability to undertake rigorous
analysis of contemporary issues in information systems. The students had specialist sessions
teaching teamwork skills and public speaking and participated in a culture–simulation game.
Through their experiences they develop many important transferable skills: the ability to
conduct academic research using traditional and new media resources, time planning and
management, teamwork skills, oral presentations (both individually and in groups), report
writing, competence in general IT applications, research methodology and research methods.
The programme has an exceptional reputation for placing graduates in the career of their
choice. The taught and research elements of the programme provide students with the
transferable skills necessary to excel in numerous professional arenas. These are the skills
that help ADMIS graduates to rapidly ascend to positions of increased responsibility in their
careers.
In today’s information economy, no aspect of our lives will remain untouched by the
proliferation of information systems. Success will depend on the ability to leverage the
power of information systems at the individual, organisational and national level. ADMIS
graduates have demonstrated their ability to understand and adapt to the changing
information economy. We hope that this booklet will help you in your search for talented,
capable individuals from the ADMIS class of 2004.
The MSc is an advanced course aimed at providing a sound understanding of the issues,
approaches and tools for information systems development and management within
organisations. It presents a balance between the management and technical aspects that have
an impact on the practice and theory of information systems. Students may come from a
variety of backgrounds but must have a good first degree, strong English language skills and
a basic knowledge of information technology. The core of the curriculum, in the first term,
focuses on information systems management, systems development and the application of
information technology in business and social life. In the second term, students specialise in
one particular area. After their examinations, the students then work on their dissertation.
Students are required to be examined in courses to a total of three full–units plus a report
(“dissertation”), as detailed below. The core courses are half–units, streams are full–units.
Most half–units are examined by means of a three–hour unseen examination paper. The full–
unit streams are assessed by examination and a five thousand word report or by a group
project.
ADMIS Core
• Information systems
• Systems development
• Information systems management
• Information technology: Issues and skills (not examined)
• A report (“dissertation”) of not more than 10,000 words on a topic selected with the
approval of the candidate’s teachers
ADMIS streams
• Innovation and Technology Management
• IT policy and development
• Interorganisational information systems
• Interpretations of information
• Systems design in context
Students also take a further half–unit option. This can be a half–unit version of another
stream, Security in information systems for organisations, Global consequences of
information technology, Principles of privacy and data protection, Knowledge management,
or a course offered elsewhere in the School (Organisational Behaviour; Financial Reporting;
Problem Structuring Methods; Feminist Perspectives on Technology; the Social Psychology
of New Technology).
The MSc in New Media, Information and Society course introduces students to the study of
new media, such as the Internet, and their impact on society. This is done with an explicit
consideration of the relationship between new and traditional media. The programme is 12–
months long and runs from October to September.
The programme is taught jointly between the Department of Information Systems at the LSE,
one of the largest and best–known departments of its kind in the world and the newly formed
Department of Media and Communications. It is explicitly international and informed by all
the social sciences found at the LSE.
Students join the MSc New Media programme from all over the world and with a variety of
academic backgrounds. Each student brings a unique set of experiences to the programme
and the taught elements of the programme are enriched by this diversity of perspectives
towards the issues surrounding new media.
The programme encompasses a broad range of teaching approaches, from traditional lectures
and classes, through student led seminars, rôle playing exercises and practical demonstrations
which allows them to achieve intellectual flexibility and the ability to undertake rigorous
analysis of contemporary issues in new media. Through their experiences they develop many
important transferable skills: the ability to conduct academic research using traditional and
new media resources, time planning and management, teamwork skills, oral presentations
(both individually and in groups), report writing, competence in general IT applications,
research methodology and research methods.
In today’s information economy, no aspect of our lives will remain untouched by the
proliferation of new media. Success will depend on the ability to leverage the power of new
media at the individual, organisational and national level. Our graduates demonstrate their
ability to understand and adapt to the changing information economy. We hope that this
booklet will help you in your search for talented, capable individuals from the New Media
class of 2004.

Individual Project: Used EXCEL - Analysed firm’s potential to implement E-commerce
Initiated Management Information Systems Project on modelling and decision-making using Excel
spreadsheet package. It entailed analysing ‘factual data’ based on economic, technological state and a
company’s financial status. This is complemented with a critical examination of project scenario based
on the opportunity to develop an E-commerce function. Bossini Ltd, Hong Kong trading company,
wants to expand its I.T. operations into the UK market. Comprehensive report was devised to explore
the effects of the organisation’s endogenous/exogenous variables in a situation analysis so that
decision-makers can appraise possibility of setting up e-commerce. Thus, a sensitivity analysis is
constructed in a causal-influence diagram with regards to variable relationships.
A spreadsheet-based model is built so that the potential profitability of technological investment
opportunities is determined. This is supported by a financial analysis through forecasting and
determining an optimal solution after outlining the prospective benefits and risks of funding an online
business. If the tested corporate model suggests profits after 5 years, Bossini Ltd would consider the
proposition for investing in E-commerce. Otherwise, recommendation would be made to abandon the
project and reconsider implementation of the proposal when more appropriate in the future.
Individual Case Reports: (Web-based assignments):
Boeing/Airbus - Targeted sales communication strategy at corporate customers.
Ford/Firestone - Formulated a marketing strategy for a solution to corporate relationship
Wine Export - Proposed inter-organisational marketing strategy for consumer market
