GPs, providing them with an update about the management of patients with Heart Failure.
11/4/18-12/4/18: Nice, France. Attendance at The International
Society of Heart Lung Transplant Annual Congress. Presented an abstract about the use of LVADs in the UK as Bridge to Transplant Candidacy. Attended Steering Committee meetings for IMACS and ELEVATE Registry.
6/2/18: IMACS. A huge honour of Dr Shaw's to accept an
invitation to join the Steering Committee of IMACS, which is the International Society's Registry of Mechanically Assisted Circulatory Support. More international meetings on the way!
22/1/18: London, UK. Attendance at CTAG Heart Allocation
Working Group. This was a meeting to discuss and refine the recipient criteria for Heart Transplantation (and their urgency) in the UK.
18/1/18: Birmingham, UK. Attendance at CTAG Clinical Audit
Group with NHSBT to discuss Dr Shaw's current audit work on LVADs in the UK.
16/1/18: Liverpool, UK. Presentation at Liverpool Heart & Chest
Hospital on Advanced Heart Failure Management. 2017

8/12/17. Newcastle, UK. Delivered a presentation about his
work on LVADs as bridge to candidacy at The Freeman Hospital..
24//11/17. London, UK. Dr Shaw presented at the British Society
of Heart Failure Annual Meeting. He talked about the last 30 years of LVAD technology and also chaired a session on Sports and Exercise in Heart Failure.
16/11/17-20/11/17. Asia Pacific Trip. Travelled to Seoul, South
Korea to be part of the teaching faculty at the KSHF Annual Scientific Session. He also returned to Taipei (Taiwan) to lecture on LVAD management.
Oct 2017. Article published about the case of one of his
patients normalising her heart function after an LVAD, allowing it to be explanted.
31/8/17 - 3/9/17. India Trip. Travelled to India to lecture in the
cities of Chennai and Bangalore. Dr Shaw was invited to speak about how to select good patients for LVAD and how to manage them afterwards. He also visited the hospitals of Narayana Health (Bangalore) and Fortis Malar (Chennai) to observe their transplant and heart failure programs.
14/8/17 - 15/8/17. Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales, UK. On a
lighter note, played for the England team over two days in the NHS 4 Nations Golf Tournament. England were runners up, narrowly beaten by Northern Ireland. Dr Shaw scored 91 stableford points in 3 rounds of golf, which he considered reasonable given the conditions but not his best! 11/7/17 - 16/7/17. Asia Pacific Trip. Performed a series of lectures in the Asia Pacific region about Advanced Heart Failure, LVADs and Transplants. Cities visited included Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Singapore and Taichung (Taiwan). This included participation in the Asia Pacific Society of Cardiology Annual Meeting, where he had the difficult task in presenting what was best, a Heart Transplant or an LVAD?
16/6/17. Manchester, UK. Lecture on Advanced Heart Failure at
The North West Heart Failure Nurses Forum. Dr Shaw always tries to support the Heart Failure Specialist Nurses of the region, who do a marvellous job looking after heart failure patients.
3/4/17 - 9/4/17: San Diego, USA. Attendance at The International
Society of Heart Lung Transplant Annual Congress. Attended the Masterclass on Mechanical Circulatory Support. He presented four Abstracts on the management of cardiogenic shock during the meeting. Also was co-author on the first presentation of The Elevate Registry 6 month findings (A study of the Heartmate 3 LVAD).
