Statement of Beliefs

I believe that as an educator I am a professional, and therefore I need to uphold to a standard


professional and ethical conduct.
I believe that as an educator I should be constantly learning by participating in ongoing professional
development to maintain and expand my professional knowledge, experience, and judgement.
I believe that being a member of the teaching profession means to be a leader inside and outside of
school, and therefore it is my responsibility to promote and model positive, respectable behaviour,
integrity, moral action, and attitudes for my students, colleagues and community partners.
I believe that as a teacher I am one member of a large team devoted to promoting and facilitating student
wellbeing and learning, and therefore, professional learning communities are important to the success of
students and myself as an educator.
I believe that school and community partnerships and relationships with parents, public, colleagues and
students matter.
I believe that becoming an educator means committing to students and student learning throughout the
duration of my career, and I need to be dedicated in my care to students.
I believe that it is extremely important to treat all student equitably, and with respect and care.
I believe that each and every child has a larger purpose beyond the classroom and it is my responsibility
to help students see their potential and develop as contributing Canadian citizens.
I believe that it is my responsibility to promote and participate in the creation of welcoming, safe,
collaborative and supportive learning environments.
I believe that instruction and assessment can and should be differentiated to meet and reflect the
needs/abilities of individual needs and learning communities.
I believe that ongoing inquiring, dialogue, and reflection are the keys to being the best teacher I can be.
I believe that I will be a teacher who consistently demonstrates care, respect, trust and integrity towards
my students, colleagues, parents, and the public.
I believe that all classrooms should be built on the foundation of respect, honesty, inclusivity,
acceptance, and compassion.
I believe that all students should have opportunities to reach their highest potential, and as an educator, I
will do my best to help them do so.
I believe that as an educator, student health and mental, physical, and emotional well-being is a priority
and I can commit to students’ well-being and learning through positive influence, professional
judgement and empathy in practice.
I believe that in order to be an effective educator and to provide all learners with opportunities to be
successful, I need to develop meaningful rapports with my students through embodying trust, fairness,
openness and honesty.
I believe in inclusive education and all learners with various exceptionalities have the right to equal and
accessible education.
