Normative theories of sport and doping

Purpose: To use the four normative theories of sport studied in class (functionalism,
formalism, conventionalism, and broad internalism) to analyze either Luiz Adriano’s
controversial goal or Armstrong’s use of performance-enhancing substances and methods
(see the link on Canvas for more information about these two cases).

Part I. Functionalism. Make a functionalist argument to justify or condemn the
