BTS18000:Incorrect reporting RM LED status on S18K after using TIL
Background:
GSM BTS 18000 cabinets are incorrectly reporting the RM LED status after using TIL (Local maintenance terminal). The
LED status indicates the RM is faulty or non operational while the OMCR indicates the site is operational.
Analysis:
When an RM_TRX is disconnected using the TIL, the BTS will cause the Amber LED associated with this TRX to flash
and will notify the BSC by sending an event report (begin fault) to the BSC.
When the RM_TRX is reconnected, the BTS again notifies the BSC by sending the same event report to the BSC but this
time with a status of cleared. The BTS then waits for the BSC to reconfigure the RM_TRX: As part of this reconfiguration,
the BTS expects to receive a LOAD_CONTAINER message from the BSC; it is this message which triggers the extinction
of the LED. This message is not sent in the case of a disconnection & reconnection by the TIL, hence the LED remains
flashing.
NOTE: There is no impact on service, the RM_TRX is fully operational and will handle traffic, it is just the LED status
which is incorrect.
Recommendations:
In a maintenance window perform a shuttingDown / unlock of the RM_TRX to restore the correct
LED status
