2 Checking an Existing Heat

Workshop
The purpose of this example is to check whether this existing heat
exchanger is capable of performing the specified duty. The program
calculates the required area and compares it with the actual area to get
the area ratio. If the area ratio is 1 or more, the heat exchanger is
acceptable.

Learning Objectives
Once you have completed this section you will be able to:

• navigate between the screens and use the vender specsheet

effectively in the program,
• build a data table that describes the exchanger performance,
• compare between checking and simulation modes.

Prerequisites
• You must be familiar with navigating through the views in
TASC.

Building the Simulation

Start a new case and set your mode on Checking.

1. Enter the process, property, and geometry data given in the

specsheet.
2. Run the case.

What is the area ratio? __________________________

3. Check the outlet temperature of the cold and hot stream on the
Summary page.

What does this mean? _________________________________

4. Switch to Simulation mode and re-run the case.

What is the area ratio now? ________________________

What is the outlet temperature of the cold and hot

stream? _______________________
