The training schedule will be discussed with the participants on the first day. Depending
on interest, we will share the time on the different subjects and reorganize the following
days.

1st Day:
• Organization and welcome
• Setup of training, initial discussion on PGIM experience of participants, review of fields of
interests.
• PGIM System requirements and layout questions, architecture
• Installation of a single server PGIM system, analysis of the server, includes the server
“placo.ini”. Looking at debug outputs and system messages.
• Explanation of the storing algorithm and construction of the PGIM DB.
• Hand-on failure analysis with examples of failure search and tracking.
• How to analyze the server behavior in runtime mode, tuning parameters, etc.
• Project presentation of one course participant and discussion.

2. Day:
• How to convert a PGIM system from single to redundant.
• How to handle a hard disk crash of a PGIM server.
• How to import old data into PGIM.
• How to restore a broken PGIM DB.
• Redundant PGIM servers introduction, setup of a system. Normal handling of redundant
servers. Failure analysis.
• Discussion on standard PGIM tools for the system: UserManger, etc. and use them
• Lesson on scanner configuration “scanman.ini” – explanation of scanner debug output ,
how to tune , where do I look if something does not work as it is supposed to work.
• Project presentation of one course participant and discussion.

3. Day:
• Time to spend on PGIM Navigator, Trend, and Graphics – how to include your own
tools, etc.
• Event Management setup, how to work with Conmea. How to use the Sikos language to
write your own event reader.
• PGIM Reports: How to use PGIM reports with/without events, some examples.
• Shiftbook Demo and Introduction
• Project presentation of one course participant and discussion.

4. Day:
• 800xA installation: Planning, Redundancy in 800xA, Auto Installation, working with the
“AutoSystemCreator 5.0”
• Troubleshooting in 800xA. Hand-on training: error search in an installation.
• Project presentation of one course participant and discussion.

5. Day:
• Cont. 800xA issues.
• PGIM WebServer, PGIM ThinWebClient
• PGIM Report Integration in 800xA,
• PGIM Connect
• PGIM final knowledge test
• Summary & Discussions, Wrap-up

Required skills for Participants


Trainees have to know about at least
- ABB Control Systems, basic control engineer knowledge, basic computer knowledge
- PGIM Base Training and/or project experience with PGIM
- For the 800xA part: 800xA system basics, like structure & handling
- the 800xA "Service Structure" and how to deal with
- what a "Functional Structure" and a "Control Structure" is
- the 800xA Historian principals and the related Aspects "Log Template", "Log Configuration”,”
History Source" and "Trend"

Equipment Recommendations
General:
All computers should be connected by a network and DNS.
All configurations will be based on Virtual Images, using VMWare.

a) For stand-alone Part (first 3 days):


Two students share one computer. Preinstalled Software: Windows Server 2003, MS Office, no
SQL Server please!

b) 800xA Part
I will bring ready installed 800xA VMWare images with me.
Pre-installed Software: Windows Server 2003, MS Office, no SQL Server please!
Option for intensive training: two students share one computer running a compact node (800xA
AS+CS+PGIM).

Presentation Aids:
One beamer (video projector for my Laptop, 1280x1024 resolution shall be supported please)

Documentation
Please bring your Basic PGIM training manuals if available. Shown presentations and
documents will be distributed.
