Day 1

아침

아침 밥 breakfast 밥 = food, meal, rice

좋은 아침 good morning 좋다 = to be good


좋은 is the adjective form of 좋다.

매일 아침 every morning 매일 = everyday

이른 아침 early morning 이르다 = to be early


이른 is the adjective form of 이르다.

아침 일찍 early in the morning 일찍 = early (adverb)

내일 아침에 봐요. I will see you tomorrow morning. 내일 = tomorrow


보다 = to see, to look, to watch
-아/어/여요 = let’s

아침부터 비가 왔어요. It’s been raining since morning. -부터 = from, since
비 = rain
오다 = to come

저는 아침 잠이 많아요. I have a lot of trouble waking up in the 저 = I (polite)


잠 = sleep
morning.
많다 = to be a lot, many, very, much
아침 잠이 많다 = to have trouble getting up in the morning

저는 아침을 안 먹어요. I don’t eat breakfast. 저 = I (polite)


아침 = breakfast
아침 is morning but is also used for the meaning “break-
fast”.
안 = not
먹다 = to eat

내일 아침에 연락 주세요. Please contact me tomorrow morning. 내일 = tomorrow


연락 = contact
주다 = to give

아침부터 왜 짜증내세요? It’s still morning, why are you getting so 부터 = from, since
왜 = why, how come
mad at me (so early in the day)?
짜증내다 = to get mad at someone, to show one’s anger

매일 아침 저는 뉴스를 I watch the news every morning. 매일 = everyday


저 = I (polite)
봐요. 뉴스 = news
보다 = to see, to look, to watch

오늘 아침에 일찍 This morning I woke up early. 오늘 = today


일찍 = early (adverb)
일어났어요. 일어나다 = to wake up, to get up

아침마다 출근길에 I listen to the radio every morning on my -마다 = every + N


출근길에 = on one’s way to work
라디오를 들어요. way to work.
라디오 = radio
듣다 = to listen

저는 일요일 아침에는 늦게 I wake up late on Sundays. 저 = I (polite)


일요일 = Sunday
일어나요. 늦다 = to be late
늦게 is the adverb form of 늦다.
일어나다 = to wake up, to get up

I drank (all night) from last night until 어제 = yesterday


밤 = night
어제 밤부터 아침까지 술을 morning.
-부터 = from, since
마셨어요. -까지 = until, till
술 = drink, alcohol, liquor
마시다 = to drink

아침 일찍 일어나는 게 너무 I have a hard time waking up in the morn- 일찍 = early


일어나다 = to wake up, to get up
힘들어요. ing.
-는 게 = to + V (subject)
-는 게 is -는 것이 in the original form, but people often just
use -는 게 for ease of pronunciation.
너무 = too much, excessively
힘들다 = to be difficult, to be hard

아침에 눈을 뜨니 눈이 오고 When I woke up this morning, it was 눈 = eye


눈을 뜨다 = to open one’s eyes, to wake up
있었어요. snowing.
눈 = snow
오다 = to come
-고 있다 = to be + V-ing

오늘 아침에 늦잠을 자서 I woke up late this morning, so I was late 오늘 = today


늦잠을 자다 = to wake up late
지각을 했어요. for school/work.
지각을 하다 = to be late for + N

사다

옷을 사다 to buy clothes 옷 = clothes

밥을 사다 to treat someone to a meal 밥 = food, meal, rice

사다 주다 to buy something for someone and bring it 주다 = to give

사다 놓다 to buy something and keep it for later use 놓다 = to put down, to leave

I bought it for a low price. 싸다 = to be cheap


싸게 is the cheap form of 싸다.
싸게 샀어요. 싸게 사다 = to buy something for a low price

뭐 살 거예요? What are you going to buy? 뭐 = what


뭐 is 무엇 in the original form, but people often just use 뭐
for ease of pronunciation.
-(으)ㄹ 것이다 = will, to be going to + V

얼마에 샀어요? How much did it cost? 얼마 = how much


-에 사다 = to buy at + (price)

어디에서 샀어요? Where did you buy it? 어디 = where

이거 사고 싶어요. I want to buy this. 이거 = this


-고 싶다 = to

약 좀 사다 주세요. Could you buy me some medicine? 약 = medicine


좀 = a little, please
사다 주다 = to buy something for someone and bring it
-(으)세요 = imperative (polite)

언제 밥 살 거예요? When are you going to treat me to a meal? 언제 = when


밥 = food, meal, rice
밥을 사다 = to treat someone to (food)
-(으)ㄹ 것이다 = will, to be going to + V

드리다 = to give (honorific)

없다 = to not have, to not be there

마음에 안 들어서 안 It wasn’t my style, so I didn’t buy it. 마음 = mind

그 옷을 사고 나서 I regretted having bought those clothes. 그 = that, the

고민하다 = to debate, to try to decide
샀어요. in the end I didn’t buy it.
-다가 = after + S + V, while + V-ing
안 = not

할인 기간일 때 많이 사 When there’s a sale, make sure to buy a lot. 할인 = sale


기간 = period, term
놔야 해요. -(으)ㄹ 때 = while, when
많다 = to be a lot
많이 is the adverb form of 많다.
사 놓다 = to buy something and keep it for later use
-어/아/여야 하다 = should, must

친구 선물로 뭐 살지 고민 I’m still thinking what to buy for my friend. 친구 = friend


선물 = gift, present

노래

좋은 노래 good song 좋다 = to be good


좋은 is the adjective form of 좋다.

슬픈 노래 sad song 슬프다 = to be sad

신나는 is adjective form of 신나다.

노래를 하다 to sing 하다 = to do

-아/어/여 주다 = to do something for someone
부르다 is an irregular verb and 부르 changes to 불ㄹ before
-어.
-(으)세요 = imperative (polite)

이거 누구 노래예요? Whose song is this? 이거 = this


누구 = who, whose

어떤 노래 듣고 싶어요? What kind of song do you want to listen to? 어떤 = what kind of, which
듣다 = to listen to, to hear
-고 싶다 = to want to + V

노래를 잘해서 반했어요. I fell in love with them because they are 잘하다 = to be good at something
-아/어/여서 = since, because
good at singing.
반하다 = to fall in love

후회하다

후회할 필요 없어요. You don’t need to regret it. -(으)ㄹ 필요 없다 = to not need to, to not have to

언젠가 후회할 거예요. You will regret it someday. 언젠가 = someday


-(으)ㄹ 것이다 = will, to be going to + V

후회하고 싶지 않아요. I don’t want to regret. -고 싶지 않다 = to not want to + V

곧 후회하게 될 거예요. You will regret it soon. 곧 = soon

최선을 다했으니 후회는 Since I did my best, I don’t regret it. 최선을 다하다 = to do one’s best
-았/었/였으니 = since + S + V-ed
없어요. 없다 = to not have, to not be there

나중에 후회하지 말고 If you don’t come with me, you would 나중에 = later
-지 말고 = don’t + V + and
같이 가요. regret later.
같이 = with, together
가다 = to go
-아/어/여/요 = let’s + V

이제 와서 후회해 봐야 소용 There is no use in regretting it now. 이제 와서 = now, now that things have happened like this
-아/어/여 봐야 소용 없다 = there is no use in V-ing
없어요.

공부를 더 열심히 했어야 I should have studied harder in school, but 공부 = studying

했는데 후회 돼요. I didn’t, so I regret it.

후회할 때는 후회하더라도 Even though I might regret it, I would like -(으)ㄹ 때는 -더라도 = even though I might + V + later

둘 중에 어떤 걸 선택하든 No matter what I choose, you will regret. 둘 = two (native Korean number)
중에 = among, between, out of
후회를 하게 될 거예요. 어떤 걸 = anything (object)
어떤 걸 is 어떤 것을 in the original form, but people often
just use 어떤 걸 for ease of pronunciation.

선물을 고르다 to choose a present 고르다 = to choose

받다 = to receive
-고 싶다 = to want to + V

열다 = to open
-아/어/여 보다 = to try V-ing
-아/어/여도 돼다 = it is okay to + V, S + can + V

선물 너무 마음에 들어요. I really love your present. 너무 = too much, excessively


마음 = mind
마음에 들다 = to like, to be likeable

아빠 선물로 뭐가 What would be a good present for my dad? 아빠 = dad, father


-(으)로 = as, for
좋을까요? 뭐 = what
