1. SCOPE
The scope of this method statement is to define the procedure that will be followed for the
excavation of tie-ins between existing Train 2 and new Train 3 firewater underground lines.

3. RESPONSIBILITIES
The Site Supervisor / Engineer will be responsible for the full implementation of this
method statement.
4. EQUIPMENT / TOOLS
5. SAFETY
5.1 All necessary safety equipment, warning devices shall be provided and worn by the
working personnel.
5.2 The work site shall be kept in a clean and tidy condition.
5.3 All work shall be undertaken in accordance with CMS&A W.L.L safety manual and
all individual operation will be set up and expatiated to ensure that they comply with
CMS&A W.L.L requirements.
5.4 Work permits shall be obtained where applicable prior to any work being carried out
and work shall commence in accordance with specific measures itemized on the
permit. The project Safety Officer is responsible along with the Project/ Section/
Site Engineer for ensuring that all operations are carried out with due regard to the
safety of all project personnel and property.
6. EXECUTION PROCEDURE
6.1 Execution shall be done in full compliance with Project drawings (levels, profiles,
elevations, etc).
6.2 Prior to any machine excavation, exploration by hand manual excavated trial pits
shall be carried out to determine the location of existing facilities (if any).
6.3 All existing facilities shall be exposed prior to any machine excavation. Excavation
will be carried out using Rock Breaker / Excavator / Hack Hammer if rocks are
encountered after raising the proper work permit. For the locations where soft soil
is found, hand excavation using normal hand tools will be commenced.
6.4 Shoring, bracing, dewatering and protection of under ground facilities shall be done
where required.
6.5 Excavated material which is not suitable for backfilling will be dumped to the
approved dumping area whereas the material suitable for backfilling will be stock
piled for further use in the agreed storage area.
6.6 All related activities (i.e. backfilling, compaction, type of material, tolerances etc) will
follow the approved method statement document No. MS-742-003 Rev.1 where
applicable.
