United Nations General Assembly

Federal Republic of Germany (Mackenzie Shivers)

Resolution #35

CLIMATE CHANGE CRISIS

The General Assembly,

Recognizing a major increase in temperatures and a rise in sea level, scientists have
been realizing the effects of climate change and what can be done to resolve our current
situation,

Having examined the documentary Before the Flood that displayed droughts located in
Southwest Asia, California, and the increase in temperatures all over the world which
has led to more disasters, causing the melting of polar ice caps in Greenland which
results in the rising of oceans,

Recognizing a major part of the increase in temperature lies with the greenhouse gases
and fossil fuels that are being emitted into the air, understanding that these gases
release carbon which creates a trap for heat, as more carbon is released due to fires,
and the more these gases are produced, the more difficulty the heat will have reaching
our atmosphere, leaving the earth's surface with an increase in heat,

Deeply concerned the United Nations conversed different ways to minimize the amount
of change in climate, The Green Climate Fund Website states that “responding to the
climate challenge requires collective action from all countries, including by both public
and private sectors,” this all came together through the Paris Agreement where 195
countries signed to keep a binding target of our average temperature below 2 degrees
Celsius, with each country working towards lowering their greenhouse gases we will be
able to keep our temperatures from rising too quickly,

Approving this agreement meant that each country has to work towards the global target
of keeping the average temperature below 2 degrees Celsius, some countries have a
harder time with these binding terms, as well as there are difficulties with adaptation and
being resilient when a major climate change event occurs, because of this, an
organization was pulled together called The Green Climate Fund, this organization
assists developing countries to reduce their current carbon emissions, The Green
Climate Fund states that "among these concerted efforts, advanced economies have
agreed to jointly mobilize significant financial resources,” allowing a substantial impact to
the countries hoping to reduce their carbon emissions,

1. Encourages The United States of America to take action upon signing the Paris
Agreement, and only financially contributing 0.005% in GDP :
a. With an understanding that The United States of America is both focused
upon environmental regulations and industrial competitiveness by taking a
stand in the Paris Agreement, The United States will occupy a dignitary
role due to the amount of carbon they have emitted as well as their
sizable economy;

b. With the realization that climate change has been affecting the world,
action must take place, withdrawal was due to financial inclines, by
lowering the United States financial payments all countries will be on
board to supporting the decrease in carbon emissions;

2. Reminding the United Nations that producing wind, solar, and water energy will
result in an increase of jobs and a deduction in carbon emissions due to the loss
of burning fossil fuels and greenhouse gases:

a. With an understanding that wind and sun can fluctuate, focusing towards
storing sunlight and wind at the beginning of this process will allow the
concern centered towards not enough energy to ease;

3. Emphasizes the impact of reducing our carbon emissions through renewable

energy, continuing further, an idea of bringing forth each country's scientific
advancements will allow technological ideas and scientific ideas to help formulate
further actions towards climate change;

4. Expresses hope towards redeveloping forests in primary carbon emitter

locations:

a. With a focus on forest redevelopment, deductions in carbon will be

evident due to the carbon being absorbed within the trees;

b. With greenhouse gases and palm oil fields destroying dirt, locating close
land, or finding healthy soil in an area in need of natural growth will need
to be established, allowing trees to become healthy and strong enough to
absorb carbon;

5. Encourages a determined 0.01 percentage fee on the Green Climate Fund:

a. With the current increase in climate change, working towards assisting

countries with natural disasters as well as preparing countries that don’t
have all the resources for upcoming changes in the climate;

b. With an understanding that fees allow a combined assistance to

disasters, also allowing major problems to be resolved or focused upon
due to the financial help.
