Dissertation:
“Living in the cracks on the road to progress: A Baudrilladian interpolation of activism within
structural antagonisms”
This work will expound upon a Baudrillardian concept often ignored within the canon,
reversibility – to extrapolate what the true potential for activism is within a social structure that
predominantly prospers off of civil society remaining the same, thus increasing the likelihood of
crackdown or “squashing” of activist’s radical potential. I will also draw from prominent
thinkers in the field of cultural studies, semiotics and queer activism, ranging from Roland
Barthes description of cultural “myths” to J. Halberstam’s understanding of symbolic rupture.
