Procedure for jar test

1. 6 liter of water sample was brought by students for jar test.

2. 4 properties of the water sample which were pH value, turbidity, color and temperature
has been measured and recorded as initial reading.
3. Turbidimeter, pH meter and spectrophotometer were used to measure the turbidity, pH
value, temperature and color.
4. 600 ml of the water sample was transferred into each 6 beakers of 1liter.
5. Each beaker has been label as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
6. Each beaker has been added except beaker 1 with ferric chloride with increased dosage
by 2mg/L.
7. The 6 beakers were placed at jar test apparatus.
8. The solutions were stirred for 3 minutes with 140 revolutions per minute (rpm) by jar test
machine and 5 minutes with 70 rpm.
9. The solutions in the beakers were rested for 15 minutes.
10. 4 properties of the water sample which were pH value, turbidity, color and temperature
has been measured and recorded again as final reading by using turbidimeter, pH meter
and spectrophotometer.
11. The final and initial readings was been analyses

objective

1. To determine the properties (color, turbidity, pH value and temperature) of water sample by
using ferric chloride as coagulant.

2. To investigate the optimum value of color, turbidity, pH value and temperature of water
sample by using different amount of ferric chloride.

3. To study the handling of test apparatus for color, turbidity, pH value and temperature of water
sample in the laboratory.
