1. What is obligation?

According to Oxford Advanced Learner‟s Dictionary, obligation is the state of

being forced to do something because it is your duty, or because of a law, etc.
There are obligations for students and teachers at school, parents and children at
home, workers and managers at a work place, etc.

In this lesson, we focus on the expressions of stating and asking for obligations at
school.

Please learn these expressions:

DIALOGUE
Miss Lina : My dear students, we are facing National Exam. As I told you, next week you
have to prepare your stationeries: pencils, an eraser, and a pencil sharpener.

Nia : Do I really have to use pencils?

Miss Lina : Yes, you do. You have to use pencils. If you don‟t use pencils,
the computer will not be able to read your work.

Nia : Oh, that‟s terrible. How many pencils do I have to bring, 5 pencils?
Miss Lina : 2 pencils are enough. You don‟t have to bring 5 pencils. All
