To whom it may concern,

This blog is my final portfolio draft for my ENC 1102 class. This class is a discourse
community that values interactive reviews with peers, writing, reading, and researching. The
assignments present on this website are those I was assigned and completed while in class during
the spring semester of 2018. The highlighted marks on each assignment display where I have
made corrections after each of my papers were reviewed. I have provided reflections on my
writing and the class in general; focusing on what I am most proud of and my growth throughout
the semester.
The first assignment that is displayed is a research project proposal. For this assignment I
had to choose a community that I was a part of and identify aspects of literacy I wanted to
research within the discourse. I presented my research plan, including my questions and the
specific topics I was researching. I also examined my community and the shared values that each
member must have. All of these concepts were applied based on the class readings. In this paper
I also broadly examined my methods used to conduct my research.
The second assignment is an annotated bibliography that presented my secondary sources
that relate to my research topics. I created a lit review as an introduction to my sources to show
how they all fit inside my research. This paper taught basic APA format guidelines and the
proper annotated bibliography format. I showed the information that each secondary source
provides and related each source to another source that I use to show how certain topics studied
relate and how I can add on to them to create further discussion.
The third assignment that you see is my raw data that I conducted. I used the topics of
genres and membership to find data on the KDDC community; utilizing proper interview
techniques and genre analysis’. From my data I analyzed it using particular coding to formulate
mini claims. This task was particularly difficult for me compared to the other assignments. I
believe this is because I was conducting the raw data and curating interview questions as well as
analyzing all of my data. This is the bulk of my final paper so it makes sense that it was the most
difficult.
The final assignment I have here is the last paper I completed in ENC 1102. This paper
focused on employing research techniques learned in this class and applying them to my project
as a whole. I used the format of IMRAD to construct my paper and create a cohesive argument
with my data. I also used secondary sources throughout my paper to build my ethos and
credibility as a writer.
I hope you enjoy my portfolio of the compilation of my work this semester in ENC 1102.
It showcases my growth from the beginning of the semester to the end and the learning process
in between. My goal is that you learn new concepts and ideas that you can apply to your own
research process, as well as how concepts learned in one community can transfer and be studied
in another community.
