Diagonal de luz (Cripta) consists of a series of polychrome stained glass panes/pieces based
radar and data/CGI imaging. The project seeks to syncretize possible forms of mythical/scientific
knowledge about atmospheric phenomena that links both naturally and culturally the three axes
of the geopolitical triangle that interconnects Africa, the Americas and Europe.
Employing Doppler and other radar data that graphs transatlantic atmospheric activity, the
project extends previous artistic research that proposes works of art as sensible devices, bodily
perception and its projection in the scientific instruments used to study and characterize matter.
Diagonal de luz explores ways in which perceptual information is graphed and made public to
become intelligible content (whether scientific, artistic or mythical/religious) and vice versa.
The atmospheric behaviour of the transatlantic region has had a decisive impact on the fate of
Western civilization, from transatlantic slave trade to fibre optic cabling, illustrating once again
how natural events and phenomena directly affect and become cultural contents. Myth as a
narrative mechanism and rhetorical tool serves as a common denominator both in the artistic,
scientific and spiritual spheres; In the case of Diagonal, these fields complement each other
generating a visual narrative that accounts for the syncretism historically generated by
transatlantic circulation.
Public Event Proposal *
Please, write us how you think to develop your public event. (max 2000 characters)
Beside a final event, such as an Open Studio or formal exhibition, I would like to propose a
series of small scale, informal Open talk sessions and discussions with different local and
international professionals (in person or via Internet) who specialize on the subject of 'Light' from
scientific, artistic, and mythical perspectives.
