To Whom It May Concern,

It is with pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for Stephanie Moore. Stephanie covered
a semester long FMLA in our English department this fall, where she taught American Literature,
Reading for Mastery, and a senior elective called Crime and Punishment. This spring she has been
a full-time substitute. Throughout her time here, Stephanie has made some valuable contributions to
the department and the school as a whole.

Throughout first semester, I met with Stephanie once a week during her prep to review her lesson
plans and answer any questions she had. I was struck how quickly she came to know her students
and how invested she was in their success both in and out of the classroom. She raised concerns
about students who were falling behind and sought out resources for them. She also inquired about
ways to reach a student who became withdrawn throughout the semester, as she was worried about
challenges he might be facing at home. It is obvious that she cares a great deal about the students
she works with.

It would have been easy to do the bare minimum while filling in for another teacher, but Stephanie
made the most of her full-time teaching opportunity. She tried some new assignments, including a
“Humans of New York” exercise that asked students to select an entry from the HONY site that
struck a chord with them and write about it. Stephanie took the initiative to ask if she could display
her students’ work in our hallway showcase, to which I happily obliged.

In her time as a substitute and as a teacher, I have seen evidence of Stephanie’s passion for
teaching. She cares about the curriculum, sets high standards for her students, and is willing to put
forth the time and effort necessary to grow as a teacher. I wish her every opportunity for success. I
would be happy to answer any questions about Ms. Moore’s work at Reavis High School, and I can
be reached at 708-599-7200 x242.

Sincerely,

Erika Banick
