Let Evening Come Measure 28 – measure 48

Ensemble: 8th Grade Band

Date & Time: Tuesday February 6th 2018 Period 5 (11:03 - 11:43)

Primary Rehearsal Objective: Students should be able to comprehend the musical terms
within the piece of music, provided in the study guide.
Students should be able to connect the Jane Kenyon poem to the music.
Students should be able to comprehend the connection the poem and the piece have to New
Hampshire.

Warm-Ups: Warm-up on delayed F major scale.


 Group 1: Row three; low folks
 Group 2: Row two; mid folks
 Group 3: Row one, high folks.
 Percussion: drums on a roll. Bells, join group 3.
Materials: Whiteboard

Rehearsal Procedure:
 Have students follow procedure on agenda.
 After the agenda, project a photo of New Hampshire Scenery
 Read through the poem while students are looking at the scenery.
 Have students play beginning to mm. 48 with the poem in mind.
 Focus on mm. 28 – mm. 48. Tempo = 72: rehearsal and concert
o Percussion cues: They wait A LOT. Make sure you give these!
o Entrance cues
 Get all moving lines together.
o Have students sing/finger their parts
o Take lines note by note
o Percussion
 When not working with percussion, have them write out the counts for
any rhythms they need work on throughout the WHOLE PIECE or other
pieces they need
o When not working with wind sections
 Have them finger through their parts on their own time, or with you as you
go through the focus part.
 Have them label notes they need help remembering
 Fix any wrong pitches.

Announcements:
 Continue working on the beginning - measure 88 for next time.
o Focus on entrances and correct notes
 Practice piece with poem in mind: look at your study guide!
 Practice from mm. 48 to the end for next time!
