Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT, breathes fresh air into the emotional therapy process by
borrowing from the Chinese meridian system. While acupuncture, acupressure and the like have
been primarily focused on physical ailments, EFT stands back from this ancient process and points it
directly at emotional issues. These, in turn, often provide benefits for performance and physical
issues. It is dramatically different from conventional therapy practices and that is why it often works
where nothing else will. If you are looking for something conventional, you came to the wrong place.

EFT is an emotional version of acupuncture except we don't use needlesn essence, EFT is an
emotional version of acupuncture, except we don't use needles. Instead, we use a simple two
pronged process wherein we (1) mentally "tune in" to specific issues while (2) stimulating certain
meridian points on the body by tapping on them with our fingertips. Properly done, EFT appears to
balance disturbances in the meridian system and thus often reduces the conventional therapy
procedures from months or years down to minutes or hours. Further, the basic method is very
portable and learnable by almost everyone. No special education is required. Even children have
produced beginner's benefits with it. The foundational process within EFT is known as The Basic
Recipe and is detailed for you in the next article. Also see What can I expect from EFT?

The Body's Energy System


Our bodies have a profound electrical nature. Any beginning course in anatomy covers this and it is
essential in understanding what is EFT. Shuffle your feet across a carpet and then touch an item
made of metal. Sometimes you can see the static electricity that is discharged from your fingertip.
This wouldn't be possible unless your body had an electrical nature to it.

If you touch a hot stove you will feel the pain instantly because it is electrically transmitted along the
nerves to your brain. The pain travels at the speed of electricity and that is why you feel pain so
quickly. Electrical messages are constantly sent throughout your body to keep it informed of what is
going on. Without this energy flow you would not be able to see, hear, feel, taste or smell.

Another obvious bit of evidence regarding the existence of electricity (energy) in the body are the

electroencephalograph (EEG) Our Bodies Have a


Profound Electrical Natureand electrocardiograph (EKG). The EEG records the electrical activity of
the brain and the EKG records the electrical activity of the heart. These devices have been used by
medical science for decades and are the ones you see in TV hospital dramas hooked up to dying
patients. When the screen stops "blipping" the patient is dead.
Our electrical systems are vital to our physical health. What could be more obvious? When the
energy stops flowing ... we die. Ask your doctor about this. No one disputes it.

About 5,000 years ago, the Chinese discovered a complex system of energy circuits that run
throughout the body. These energy circuits ... or meridians as they are called ... are the centerpiece
of Eastern health practices and form the basis for modern day acupuncture, acupressure and a wide
variety of other healing techniques.

This energy courses through the body and is invisible to the eye. By analogy, you do not see the
energy flowing through a TV set either. You know it is there, however, by its effects. The sounds and
pictures are your ever present evidence that the energy flow exists.

In the same way, EFT gives you striking evidence that unique energy flows within your
meridians because it provides the effects that let you know it is there. By simply tapping near the end
points of your energy meridians you can experience some profound changes in your emotional and
physical health. That's what EFT is all about. It is the central concept in the What is EFT question.

Western medical science tends to focus on the chemical nature of the body and has not paid much
attention to these subtle, but powerful, energy flows until recent years. However, they do exist and
are attracting an expanding group of researchers.
Scientific Validation of EFT

EFT's foundation comes from a common sense blend of Acupuncture and Mind-Body Medicine, both
of which have decades of scientific studies supporting them. Their effectiveness has been so
profound that prestigious institutions such as Stanford, Harvard and many other universities, clinics
and hospitals have chosen to use and/or study them. Just do an internet search for terms such as
"Mind Body Research" and "Acupuncture Research" and you will be exposed to the huge warehouse
of scientific studies that validate EFT's underpinnings.

Further, many peer reviewed EFT studies have been completed. Some of these studies are based
on a longer form EFT protocol that was popular prior to this Tutorial. This Tutorial has divided that
protocol into easy to use parts but, overall, there is no substantive change in it. One need only put
the parts back together to arrive at the original protocol used in previous research. Thus all research
using the previous protocol is still valid even though that protocol reflects "Old EFT." Future
research, however, should be based on the protocols advanced in this Tutorial. You may wish to
read this excellent article summarizing the research on EFT and similar methods written by David
Feinstein, PhD.

To me, however, the real proof of EFT's power is not to be found in the laboratory. Rather, the true
evidence lies in how well it works for you. Accordingly, this Tutorial is designed so you can put EFT
through its paces yourself and come to your own conclusions. Obviously, the more skillful you
become at EFT the better will be your results and the more thorough will be your understanding of
"What is EFT."

The Discovery Statement


One of the beautiful features of EFT is that its mechanism can be elegantly stated in one sentence.
We call it The Discovery Statement and here it is.
Now, let's examine The Discovery Statement in more detail. First, notice what it does not say. It does
not say that a negative emotion is caused by the memory of a past traumatic experience. This is
important to recognize because that presumed connection of traumatic memories to negative
emotions is a mainstay in conventional psychotherapy.

In some circles, it is the accepted practice to "treat the memory" and, in the process, ask the client to
repeatedly relive some emotionally painful event. EFT, by contrast, respects the memory but
addresses what I believe is the true cause ... a disruption in the body's energy system.

People have called me from all over the world for help over the telephone. Without my asking, they
usually start telling me in detail about their past traumas. That's because they mistakenly believe I
need all these details to help them. To them, these memories are the cause of their problems.

I care deeply about helping people who needlessly carry around all these emotionally charged
memories. That's why I created EFT. But it always seems strange to people when I tell them they
don't need to painfully relive all those horrid details for EFT to help them. These memories may
contribute to an unwanted emotion (you'll see how later), but they are not the direct cause.
Accordingly, we don't need to spend time painfully dwelling on them. It is superfluous, if not
damaging, to do so.

Thus there is relatively little emotional suffering involved with EFT. It is comparatively painless
(see What can I expect from EFT? for possible exceptions). You will be asked to briefly recall your
problem (there may be some discomfort in that), but that is all. There is no need to relive the pain. In
fact, with EFT, generating prolonged emotional discomfort is frowned upon. This is but one example
of where EFT is a radical departure from conventional methods.
The Basic Recipe blends focused wording with a 9 point tapping sequence.

The Tapping Points


These illustrations, together with the written aids below them, are self explanatory and are explored
in detail later (including videos). For now, just locate each of these points on your own body and
touch each of them with your fingertips.
Written aids to locating the Basic recipe Tapping Points:
KC: The Karate Chop point (abbreviated KC) is located at the center of the fleshy part of the outside
of your hand (either hand) between the top of the wrist and the base of the baby finger or....stated
differently....the part of your hand you would use to deliver a karate chop.

TOH: On the top of the head. If you were to draw a line from one ear, over the head, to the other ear,
and another line from your nose to the back of your neck, the TOH point is where those two lines
would intersect.

EB: At the beginning of the eyebrow, just above and to one side of the nose. This point is
abbreviated EB for beginning of the EyeBrow.

SE: On the bone bordering the outside corner of the eye. This point is abbreviated SE for Side of
the Eye.

UE: On the bone under an eye about 1 inch below your pupil. This point is abbreviated UE for
Under the Eye.

UN: On the small area between the bottom of your nose and the top of your upper lip. This point is
abbreviated UN for Under the Nose.

Ch: Midway between the point of your chin and the bottom of your lower lip. Even though it is not
directly on the point of the chin, we call it the chin point because it is descriptive enough for people to
understand easily. This point is abbreviated Ch for Chin.

CB: The junction where the sternum (breastbone), collarbone and the first rib meet. To locate it, first
place your forefinger on the U-shaped notch at the top of the breastbone (about where a man would
knot his tie). From the bottom of the U, move your forefinger down toward the navel 1 inch and then
go to the left (or right) 1 inch. This point is abbreviated CB for CollarBone even though it is not on
the collarbone (or clavicle) per se. It is at the beginning of the collarbone and we call it the
collarbone point because that is a lot easier to say than "the junction where the sternum
(breastbone), collarbone and the first rib meet."

UA: On the side of the body, at a point even with the nipple (for men) or in the middle of the bra strap
(for women). It is about 4 inches below the armpit. This point is abbreviated UA for Under the Arm.

Tapping Tips
These tips answer the most common questions.

 Some of the tapping points have twin points on each side of the body. For example, the
"eyebrow" point on the right side of the body has a twin point on the left side of the body. Years of
experience have taught us that you only need to tap one of these twin points. However, if you have
both hands free you can certainly tap on both sides for good measure. You will see me do this often
in our Art of Delivery videos.

 You can also switch sides when you tap these points. For example, during the same round of
The Basic Recipe, you can tap the "karate chop" point on
your left hand and the eyebrow point on theright side of your body. This makes the
tapping process more convenient to perform.

 The tapping is done with two or more fingertips.


This is so you can cover a larger area and thereby insure that your tapping covers the correct point.

 While you can tap with the fingertips of either hand, most people use their dominant hand.
For example, right handed people tap with the fingertips of their right hand while left handed people
tap with the fingertips of their left hand.

 You tap approximately 5 times on each point. No


need to count the taps because anywhere between 3 and 7 taps on each point is adequate. The only
exception is during the Setup step (explained later) where the Karate Chop Point is tapped
continuously while you repeat some standard wording.

 The process is easily memorized. After you have tapped the Karate Chop Point, the rest of
the points go down the body (see the Sequence Points in the diagram above). The Eyebrow point,
for example, is below the Top of the Head point. The Side of the Eye point is below the Eyebrow
point. And so on down the body.
The 5 Steps of The Basic Recipe
These simple steps are also given in the video below. For now, just familiarize yourself with the
concepts. The video will walk you through this how to do

EFT process so you can memorize it easily.

1. Identify the Issue: All you do here is make a mental note of what ails you. This becomes the
target at which you "aim" the Basic Recipe. Examples might be: Sore shoulder, my father
embarrassing me at my age 8 birthday party, hitting that high singing note. Be sure you are only
targeting one issue at a time. As you will learn later, trying to combine issues in the process will
compromise your results.

2. Test the Initial Intensity: Here you establish a before level of the issue's intensity by assigning a
number to it on a 0-10 scale where 10 is the worst the issue has ever been and 0 is no problem
whatsoever. This serves as a benchmark so we can compare our progress after each round of The
Basic Recipe. If, for example, we start at an 8 and eventually reach a 4, then we know we have
achieved a 50% improvement. The number of possible issues we can address with The Basic
Recipe is endless and they don't all fit into neat testing boxes. That is why we have an entire
segment later on dedicated to testing. For this stage of your learning, however, here are some useful
methods to help you access your issue(s) and arrive at your 0-10 numbers. They apply to most
issues.

For emotional issues, you can recreate the memories in your mind and assess their discomforts.
For physical ailments you can simply assess the existing pain or discomfort.
For performance issues you can attempt the desired performance level and measure how close you
come to it.

3. The Setup: The Setup is a process we use to start each round of tapping. By designing a simple
phrase and saying it while continuously tapping the KC point, you let your system know what you’re
trying to address.

When designing this phrase there are two goals to achieve:

1) acknowledge the problem


2) accept yourself in spite of it
We do this by saying:

“Even though I have this _______________, I deeply and completely accept myself”.

This ______________ is the problem you want to address, so you can just insert things like:

This sore shoulder:


“Even though I have this sore shoulder, I deeply and completely accept myself.”

This fear of spiders:


“Even though I have this fear of spiders, I deeply and completely accept myself.”

This humiliation at my eighth grade graduation:


“Even though I have this humiliation at my eighth grade graduation, I deeply and
completely accept myself.”

This difficulty making free throws:


“Even though I have this difficulty making free throws, I deeply and completely accept
myself.”

Not all of the issues will fit neatly into “Even though I have this ____________,” so you can use
some flexibility when designing your Setup phrase. For example, instead of “this sore shoulder” you
could say “Even though my shoulder hurts, I deeply and completely accept myself”. Or instead of
“this humiliation at my eighth grade graduation” you could say “Even though my dad humiliated me
at my eighth grade graduation.”

By using “Even though I have this _______________,” you will automatically choose something that
represents your experience, your reaction, or a problem that you recognize as something that
belongs to you, and that is an important feature.

We do not want to use EFT on someone else’s problem. For example, rather than, “Even though my
son is addicted to drugs, I deeply and completely accept myself,” it’s better to focus on your own
reaction which might be, “Even though I’m frustrated by my son's drug addiction.” Or instead of
“Even though my husband works too much…,” better to try something like, “Even though I feel alone
when my husband stays late at the office…” We want to aim EFT at our part of the problem rather
than trying to fix someone else’s problem.

By identifying the problem with this phrase, you “set up” the initial zzzzzt behind the scenes so the
tapping has something to resolve.
Important, Important, Important: The language that we use always aims at the negative. This is
essential because it is the negative that creates the energy disruptions (zzzzzts) that The Basic
Recipe clears (and thus brings peace to the system). By contrast, conventional methods and popular
self-help books stress positive thinking and preach avoiding the negative. This sounds good but, for
our purposes, it does little more than cover over the negative with pleasant sounding words. EFT, on
the other hand, needs to aim at the negative so it can be neutralized. This allows our natural
positives to bubble up to the top.

4. The Sequence: This is the workhorse part of The Basic Recipe that stimulates/balances the
body's energy pathways. It is the main part of the how to do EFT basics process. To perform it, you
tap each of the points shown in the Sequence Points diagram (see above) while saying a Reminder
Phrase that keeps your system tuned into the issue. I list the points below followed by a description
of the Reminder Phrase:

Top of the Head (TOH)


Beginning of the Eyebrow (EB)
Side of the Eye (SE)
Under the Eye (UE)
Under the Nose (UN)
Chin Point (CH)
Beginning of the Collarbone (CB)
Under the Arm (UA)

The Reminder Phrase is quite simple as you need only identify the issue with some brief wording.
Depending on your issue, you might say the following at each tapping point....

"This sore shoulder",


"My father embarrassed me",
"This difficulty in singing that high note."

5. Test the Intensity Again: Finally, you establish an after level of the issue's intensity by assigning
a number to it on a 0-10 scale. You compare this with the before level to see how much progress you
have made. If you are not down to zero then repeat the process until you either achieve zero or
plateau at some level. You can also include some additional tapping points that will be introduced in
the next section. Otherwise, you will likely need to "get to the roots of the issue" (see Part II of this
Tutorial).

Now follow along with this video as I demonstrate The Basic Recipe live. It assumes you have
familiarized yourself with the Tapping Points, Tapping Tips and the 5 Steps to the Basic Recipe given
above. Accordingly, you may want to review them again before proceeding with the video.

Curing Fears & Phobias

Many of us live with a host of fears; some so small we don’t even notice them. For a few people some
fears are so great they become phobias, which can limit their every day life.

Whatever your fear it can almost always be helped.

A small fear of flying may be a mild inconvenience to someone who only makes rare trips abroad.

A phobia of flying to an international businessman could cripple his career.

A fear of public speaking could simply cause most people to avoid it, for an executive it could cost him
a major contract worth thousands.

Perhaps your fear is of the dentist, of spiders or rats, heights or crowds, it really does not matter. And
by following the tips using EFT it is possible to cure your fears forever.

In fact for many people they even begin to like or enjoy what they once dreaded. It is also important
to know that by treating the fear you will not lose common sense and endanger yourself, e.g. if you
treat yourself for fear of heights you will not go and jump off a high building.

Treating the fear…


Try to think back and see if there is any event(s) that may have caused the fear. Maybe in school you
were told your singing was terrible and you couldn’t do it, so ever since you have been afraid.

Maybe you were involved in a horrific car accident and now you’re afraid to drive.

If you can establish a specific event then start by treating that. Close your eyes and visualise as much
as you can.

(In the case of a serious trauma only do as much as is comfortable, do it in stages, go slowly and if in
doubt contact an EFT therapist.)

Take note of your intensity level. Be as descriptive as you can in your set-up phrase.

“Even though Miss Jones said I should not sing and that
I sounded like a cat being strangled and everybody laughed
I can love and accept myself anyway
fully and completely.”
Often what we can logically see as being silly now, and can’t understand how it could still be affecting
us is just what needs to be treated. Do a couple of rounds taking note of any other feelings or
memories that surface; these too may well need treating.

Check back on your intensity level of that event.

Keep working focusing on different aspects as needed, until you can remember that event without
negative feeling.

Indeed often they may well now seem humorous.

You may find that was all that needed treating; you may find other memories that had been forgotten
which also need treating in the same way.

There could be many layers to your onion of fear that need peeling away.

Once you have worked through these past events, or if you can think of none to begin with, visualise
your fear in the present.

Close your eyes and imagine standing on a tall building, holding a rat, talking to a huge crowd or
whatever your fear.

Take note of your intensity level and any physical or emotional feelings. Now treat each of these in the
same way.

“Even though I have this queasy feeling in my stomach


when I look over the edge I……….”
“Even though my heart starts beating
when I think about/see a rat I ……….”
“Even though I get this lump in my throat
when I think about making a presentation I ………”

Once you have treated all of the feelings until their intensity levels are zer0 you should be able to
visualise in great detail past or future events without emotional or physical distress.

The next step is to put it into practise.

You may want to start slowly, for example just my looking at a picture of a spider, rat or aeroplane. If
this triggers a response then treat that in the same way, tapping on those feelings while looking at the
picture.

Now go and face your fear.

Go to the top of a tall building, find a spider or book the appointment with your dentist. Again take it
slowly.

As you get closer to your fear physically notice any responses in your mind or body and tap them
away before going any further.

If done step by step you will surprise yourself how easily you can over-come your fears.

Tinnitus a Concept

As a hypnotherapist since 1991, treating PTSD intermittently, with varying degrees of success, I came
upon and have been using EFT, since about 2001. What an awesome tool it is in the armoury of the
therapist.
In both hypnotherapy and EFT, I have noted with some regularity working with PTSD clients, as the PTSD
diminishes, so the tinnitus seems to become more bearable, in some cases it’s the first I have been told
that they have the condition.
My conjecture could be that it is a residual traumatic (to the ears) memory of loud noise, e.g. music,
(rock concerts are common) car engines, (motor or drag racing) pneumatic drills, (which we still hear
today) or even warfare and conflict. PTSD seems to affect the body globally i.e. auditory sensations,
physical sensations, visual sensations, and even olfactory sensations, in extreme cases physically living
the event in the present.
What I am concerned with is ‘auditory sensations’ not the actual noise but the effects on the memory. If
you stand next to a drummer when he hits the cymbal your ears will ring. For how long, I don’t know?
The physical memory may fade, but the subconscious memory lasts forever.
We might say sustained exposure or shock to the ears could bring that subconscious memory into play
resulting in what we know as tinnitus. Also it may not even be a physical sound but a perceived sound,
i.e. when receiving shocking news people will say it’s like being hit around the head with a lump of 4 x 2
wood, a numbness goes through their body, which could possibly be blood pressure rising due to shock
thus affecting the ears.
Case History 1

One man stands out in my mind (name withheld) he was about 60 yrs old he had never been
in a conflict zone, but was a lorry driver for years transporting livestock.

So after the prelims, (explanation and demonstration) SUD’s 7ish (Subjective Units of
Distress) we tapped for ‘even though I have this whooshing in my ears’(his words), got to a
5ish.

Then it became tightness across the head, down to a 4, again ‘even though I have this
tightness’; back up to a 7 (aspects coming into play).
At this point he was thinking about the engine noise, so we tapped for ‘even though I have
that dammed engine noise drumming in my ears’ (his words), down it came again, about
5ish.

Then came the thing I never thought of, he mentioned matter-of-factly being involved in a
big lorry rally and all the lorries blowing their air horns in unison, so another round on ‘even
though those air horns made such a bloody racket’ (his words), and down it came again
about 2ish.

More rounds different aspects one in particular a cow he was transporting kicked out while
inside the lorry and kicked the side just as he was walking passed, well you can imagine the
ringing in the ears that gave him, so we tapped on ‘even though I was deafened the day that
cow kicked the side of the lorry’ (his words), and he was down to a 0-1ish.

I left then (home visit about 1½ hrs) for my next appointment, after getting him to promise to tap on
more aspects as and when they came to mind, also to let me know how he was doing in a week or two.
He did phone about a week later to say he is only just aware of it in the dead of night.
In all we found about 15-20 different aspects to this mans tinnitus all to do with noise some loud, some
sharp, etc, but to him and his ears all traumatic. Some of them seemed so insignificant as to be
meaningless to me, but highly significant to my client, so we tapped for these issues using his words.
So please listen to your client don’t write off tinnitus suffers, as un-helpable, handled right life can be
made as bearable for them, as it should be for you.
The way I work with clients’, is to give a them set-up statement, then let them word it their own way,
(they know the significance of the words and feel comfortable with them) while I tap surrogately using
intuition, and get them to follow my tapping points tapping on themselves.

That is the gist of how I work with tinnitus sufferers, and getting to the residual traumatic (to the ears)
memory of loud noise.
Note: This man had little or no faith in ‘EFT’ (maybe he still doesn’t, I don’t know, does it matter,) but
was desperate to try anything. He was bought up on a farm in Cornwall. U.K. and is very down to earth
with an even more earthy approach to life.

Case history 2

Dave McLamont. (Name given at the insistence of client. Dave will tell you himself, he wants this form
of healing (EFT) out there, to help others who are suffering.)

Dave a healer friend of mine mentioned he had residual PTSD and tinnitus (in therapy for 15
or so years after the ‘Falklands’ conflict).
There and then (we were in a stable at the time) I explained the concept behind EFT, and
showed him the tapping sequence, within 5 minutes his SUD’s for tinnitus had dropped from
6-7 to 1-2, as he walked away I could hear him muttering, “Marvellous that’s bloody
marvellous.”

Residual PTSD had abated latter when he went to bed and realised he had slept properly
with no interruptions. Since then he keeps sending me his friends (mostly Falkland veterans)
or anyone who will listen to him. (About 10 so far).

Dave has since phoned me to report; one night when he was under canvas during a rainstorm, with the
sound of rain on canvas he became aware of a slight tinnitus returning.
He reported the next morning it had abated during the night. (He travels around the country on his pony
he’s an animal healer). Another time he will be aware of the tinnitus, if he wakes suddenly or is startled.
It could be a sudden rise in blood pressure causing this to happen, but only seem to lasts for a few
minutes.

At present we are talking through the possibility of some residual memory of being under canvas with
loud noise, whether a marquee for a disco or such like, or while in the armed forces.
The reason we are talking this through is because he is as intrigued, as I am to understand more about
tinnitus, thereby getting to grips with it better, and offering a better service to sufferers in the future.
Note: Of the 18 clients I have worked on specifically with tinnitus 14 report a significant reduction to a
very bearable level, one client said, “No difference” and three clients I have had no contact with.

This research is on going, unfortunately with the mindset given to tinnitus suffers by the medics i.e.
incurable, un-helpable, lost cause or ‘you will just have to live with it’, gives suffers little or no hope and
they seem to fight shy of any assistance that may be out there.

Stress
(Treating the Cause Not the Symptom)

As a hypnotherpist / analyst for 14 years, and additionally now an EFT advanced (Craig 2000)
practitioner, I’ve seen stress manifest its self in lots of different forms. The effects it has on people’s
life’s can be devastating. It has been reported eczema, psoriasis and fibromyalgia are mainly caused
by stress.

I treat these skin / nerve complaints as stress related with remarkable results. As we know one of the
most stressful events in everybody’s lives is being born. Some people will continue to carry that stress
with them right through their life. These people will be life’s ‘born’ worriers and as such are more
susceptible to stress. A chance remark at work or a memo from management will make them break
out in a sweat and feel anxious.

These events can and will cause stress. In my practice the causes of stress and the symptoms of
stress constantly amaze me. I treated a client for PTSD and afterwards he reported his (unknown to
me) tinnitus had all but disappeared. Turn that on its back and you have a client with tinnitus caused
by PTSD. (Case history and explanation available.) Stress in the workplace is much like PTSD in
asmuch as it is generated by shouting and fear. I.e. Shouting = loud noise. Fear = losing your job
because deadlines are not met.

Workplace bullying (shouting) and unrealistic deadlines (fear) are all to common, and akin to bad
management and bad organisation. It is often people in middle management that set these unrealistic
targets and when things go wrong they panic, hence shouting, screaming and throwing their rattles
out of their prams. We should be looking at where the middle management got their training, as they
seem to be working with 18th century practices wrapped in 21st century ideals.

I suspect these middle managers are out to impress higher management but instead, they depress the
workforce; as such, they cause more stress. No amount of academic qualifications will ever give them
the man-management skills they so desperately require. How many times has it been said, a good
work force is nourished not punished, but how often does this happen?

Look after yourselves.


As therapists or counsellors working with the mess these people and their colleagues leave behind, we
have to look after ourselves i.e. supervision or therapy of one kind or another, if it’s there use it. I
believe, that in all but very few therapies your clients will talk to you about their worries and fears,
and transference will take place.
If you, being the therapist or councellor are unprepared for this, things will start to go wrong big time
(Therapists burnout.)

In my training as a hypnotherapist / analyst and also to enable me to qualify as such, I had to go into
analytical hypnotherapy. This was not only to experience the process but also to bring out any
personal problems, hang-ups, or hidden agendas that there may have been, also more importantly to
get to know myself. When you know yourself you are infinitely better equipped to deal with your
clients problems without something coming up and playing on your mind, as it otherwise undoubtedly
will at some time or other. Therapists / Counsellors must support each other to enable us to function
properly.

EFT can help in all these areas with about 80% – 85% successes rate.

With any dissatisfaction the first step is resolve the conflict between head and heart. Emotion is a
guiding signal.

When apathy, dissatisfaction and depression set in then it is a sign something must change. This
something could be in the heart or in the head (a change of perspective).

Apathy is stagnation, or lack of movement, change by its very meaning indicates movement and so
the stagnation is broken.

We all need to feel important and that we are contributing in a worthwhile way. You have one of two
choices, either find something to engage yourself in at work, or to change your career path.

For most people the second option is what is really needed, though they fear it the most. They have
taken a job that offers ‘financial security’ instead of following their dreams; and so imagination,
inspiration and motivation all atrophy.

However these dreams do not truly die and can be reawakened with the correct guidance.

By clearing the fears and ‘what ifs’ around change, and in this case specifically the change of career,
then his head will no longer try to suppress his heart.

He is one step closer to resolving the inner conflict that causes the tension that is experienced, and
reflected, in all areas of his life.

By using Energy Psychology Techniques such as EFT these fears can be released completely, often in
one short session.

There are often a collection of fears and each specific fear can be identified and treated.

Examples include the fear of not having enough money should things go wrong; the fear of not being
good enough in the new career; the fear of being successful and the responsibility that would bring.

It is these fears that cloud or block our motivation or desire to change.

Many people go to motivational seminars or listen to motivational audio’s to find the inspiration to
change their lives. The only problem is they are feeding from someone else’s motivational energy.

Shortly after the seminar this energy fades and they are back where they started. The word
motivation is derived from the word motive meaning “the reason why”.

It is essential if we want to have lasting motivation we discover our own personal reason why, our
own purpose.

When we have purpose we feel important and so our lives have meaning again.
Friedrich Nietzsche once observed “He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how”.

To achieve maximum motivation and to discover life purpose there is a very simple formula:

Maximum Motivation = Passion + Purpose


Otherwise stated as find what you most enjoy in life, give it a purpose and you will find motivation to
achieve it.

Life is on average only 4000 weeks long.

With only 7 days in every week you do not have time to sit waiting for life to get better.

You create your own life through the choices you make.

These choices are restricted by the fears and limiting beliefs you have established over a life time,
many having come directly from your parents or society.

Every excuse you have for life not being different is just that, an excuse. It is a reflection of those
fears and beliefs that have limited you so long.

Don’t waste another day, learn some techniques such as EFT that will clear those fears and limiting
beliefs and set you free to live your life with passion and purpose.

This new sense of joy for life will be reflected in your working life, your personal life and your overall
experience of life.

An Emotional Freedom Technique with a twist of angelic sunshine…


This is a simple healing process combining the love and beauty of the angelic realm with the power of
EFT. Working with the angels is a wonderful and uplifting experience. They teach us the power of
surrender and show us the unlimited abundance of the Universe. The angels simply ask us to reach
out our hand and to ask. We will be given. Their joy is in working with humanity to create peace,
love and beauty on our planet.
My first experience of the wonder and bliss of Oneness took place during an angel workshop. This was
two and a half years ago. Since then the angels have been with me, have guided and supported me.
I know I am always loved and accepted. When I trained in the emotional freedom technique last
summer, I was guided to bring these two things together. I see a coming together of the trust and
surrender in working with the angels and the empowerment and freedom gained through the use of
EFT.

Case Study
Mary (not her real name) was guided to me for EFT. The friend who recommended me had also been
at the same angel workshop. Mary was suffering from an episode of anxiety that had lasted for two
years. She had been diagnosed with ‘chronic anxiety’. She was afraid to leave the house, to go
anywhere or meet new people. She had a phobia of the medical profession and of institutions. She
was at the end of her tether and unable to see a way forward. She was surrounded by a veil of
hopelessness and negativity.

We had two sessions of EFT together and there was a huge amount of material to work with including
a mass of trauma from childhood. Mary was not keen on what she saw as ‘raking up the past’. She
didn’t believe she could change and she didn’t believe that these therapies, including EFT could work.

During a telephone call, Mary asked me about my experiences with angels and she said that she
thought that maybe her guardian angel was near, although she was also quite sceptical. Mary was
given a copy of the exercise below.

The next time I spoke to Mary, she sounded so different. She told me that she had been doing the
angel exercise every morning for three weeks and she had transformed. She was going out on trips
and was feeling much more positive, trusting and at peace. She also said that she knew that
Archangel Michael was with her and had even found out that he was her birth angel. She was
amazed. She sounded happy and uplifted and felt that working with the angels was enabling her to
move forward in her life, trusting and surrendering, and simply asking for the healing that she needed,
rather than raking over her past.

Use this process to assist in your healing by invoking the seven archangels and channelling their
energy into each of the seven main points on the face and body.

Find somewhere quiet and comfortable where you will not be disturbed. Make the space sacred by
lighting a candle or some incense. You may wish to set an intention for the healing or you may
choose to simply surrender to the process.

Use it daily and feel the beautiful and joyful vibration of the angels fill your energy body.

STEP 1
Locate your sore spot, or use the karate chop point. Relax into your body and take some gentle full
breaths. Rub the sore spot or tap the karate chop point continuously and say out loud three times:

‘I call upon the angelic realm to assist me in my healing process. Please support and guide me in
whatever healing I need right now, whether physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. I consciously
choose to heal and set myself free’.

Keeping your fingers on this point, take in a gentle and full breath.

STEP 2
Now tap gently with two fingers on the inside eyebrow point and say out loud:
‘I invoke the mighty Jophiel, beauty of God. Fill me with your yellow/gold ray and enable me to
connect to my higher self, my intuition and my inner wisdom. Free me of my dependencies and
illuminate my mind. Thank you and blessed be’.

Keep your fingers on this spot and take a gentle and full breath.

STEP 3
Next locate the spot on the outside eyebrow, on the bone near your temple. Tap gently and say out
loud:

‘I invoke the mighty Zadkiel, Righteousness of God. Fill me with your violet ray of forgiveness,
compassion and mercy. Support me to free myself from negativity and limitation, and pave the way
for forgiveness of others and for myself. Thank you and blessed be’.

Keeping your fingers on this point, breathe in and out.

STEP 4
Now find the spot under your eye, on the bone, tap gently and say:

‘I now invoke the mighty Michael, who is like God. Fill me with your blue ray of protection. Please cut
the cords of fear and illusion and give me the courage and strength to live my truth. Thank you and
blessed be’.

Keeping your fingers on this spot, breathe in and out.

STEP 5
Find the spot under your nose, tap gently and say:

‘I now invoke the mighty Raphael, angel of healing. Fill me with your green healing ray and activate
my own self-healing mechanism. Thank you and blessed be’.

Keeping your fingers on this spot, breathe in and out.

STEP 6
Next tap under your bottom lip and say out loud:

‘I now invoke the mighty Uriel, fire of God. Fill me with the gentle peace of your purple/gold and ruby
ray. I ask for peace for myself and humanity. Thank you and blessed be’.

Keeping your fingers on this spot, breathe in and out.

STEP 7
Now move to your collar bone point, gently pat with an open hand and say:

‘I invoke the mighty Chamuel, angel of love and he who sees God. Fill me with your pink ray reaching
into all the places where love and acceptance are needed. Fill me with love. Thank you and blessed
be’.

Keeping your hand here, breathe in and out.

STEP 8
Now move your open hand to the side of your body just below the underarm and pat gently whilst
saying:

‘I now invoke the mighty Gabriel, angel of harmony and beauty. I call on your pure white light for
guidance to understand my life’s plan. Help me to draw the people and situations needed to enable
me to reach my divine potential. Thank you and blessed be’.
Keeping your hand here, breathe in and out.

STEP 9
Now sit quietly for a few minutes with your eyes closed, breathing slowly and gently, in and out.
Notice the quality of your inner being. Thank the angels for the healing that you have received and
for the joy and upliftment they have brought you. Give them a big joyful smile and enjoy your day.
