Talofa lava. I am Sierra Tiapu’e from the village of Pava’ia’i. I am now 18 years of age

and will be 19 in 4 more months. I was born on May 21, 1999. My first experience educationally,

took place in the grounds of our very own, Iakina Adventist Academy. There, I started E.C.E till

I was five. My parents then, decided to shift me to Pava’ia’i elementary school to start off well

on my first grade. I left Pava’ia’i after 5th grade and began 6th grade, in the best school I believe,

I’ve ever attended, Manumalo Baptist. The years that I have spent in Manumalo were very

eventful. I think it was where my knowledge in things school wise, expanded and turned me into

an improvement. But it all came to an end, when I had to graduate from my 8th grade, and begin

new steps in high school. My freshmen year was all spent in Iakina. Yes, my parents did transfer

me back to our church’s mission school. Notice how my parents keep changing the schools they

prefer for me to attend in the given times. I am not complaining, because fortunately, all the

different decisions made for me, made me who I am today. I finally graduated from Iakina

Adventist Academy, and am now a freshmen here in ASCC.

As a student, I believe that there is a huge difference between the expectations you lay

down for yourself in high school, and in college. High school is more of a simple but effective

goal aiming, while college becomes the big time real deal. It is where I, become independent.

Where I am self-reliant, and self-dependent. The choices I make here are much more effective

and beneficial. Which is why, I plan to set goals that I know will take place, and not just become

record labels on notebooks and on lined papers. In this course I plan to pass every challenge that

I will encounter along the way. The goal that I am aiming for, is to improve my knowledge on

computers, so that by the end of the course, I have finally picked up more than just a few things

regarding computers or even related objects. I know, the goal to know more than what we know

pertaining computers, is being mentioned over and over by tons of students but, if they know

only the basics such as opening the common things like documents, the internet and so forth,

then let the aforementioned statement be my goal for this course.

As of right now, I am excited to learn things that are newer, and are better than what I

possess now. In other words, I am excited to get a glimpse of things I never knew can be done on

computers, rather than the simple things I’ve come to know. Working faithfully along fellow

classmates, is also one thing I’d love to act upon. Everyone, I believe are fast learners, so I think

we will have a slim chance of facing much challenges. Time is the enemy here. It goes against

our will. But for us, I think we’ll do just fine, at least, it’s what’s hoped for. I expect to learn

more, to achieve more to earn better things. Computer may just have a keyboard and a monitor,

but in it, lies things my knowledge will never reach. This is why I am aiming to become a faster

critical thinker, to improve in typing, hacking, and to familiarize myself with things that are

important to learn, not only for today and tomorrow but for the future as well.

Currently, I am taking liberal arts as a major. The reason being is, I feel like I am still

uncertain of what I want to become In the future, and that, leads to not being able to maintain a

major for myself for the time being. This is why students who are able to figure out where they

stand in the future, just so happens to become the people I envy so much. I chose to take liberal

to help me find the course that takes up most of my interest, because the process takes baby

steps. But as of right now I think I might have an interest in business management, and so that is

the field I’d like to base my reflection on because Liberal Arts as a field, is a little too broad for

this.

Computers, first of all, have helped workers in business perform their jobs more

efficiency. But in managing businesses, Computers do more than just help businesses create

professional looking slides and print sales reports. Because computers can often automate time-

consuming tasks that humans perform, software developers create programs that solve a variety

of problems.

Because computers can often automate time-consuming tasks that humans perform,

software developers create programs that solve a variety of problems. Whether you're a sole

proprietor selling jewelry or a global conglomerate such as Sony, you'll benefit by learning to

use computers to help you manage your business.

Almost every business uses computers to complete daily tasks. Computer help business

to collect, manages, calculate, arrange, and visualize customer data and information. Computer

helps to communicate faster with customer. It's really important for the administration of the big

or small organization and each field that manage resources and Opportunities, and virtually

every business. A computer is an essential tool for running the day-to-day operations, enhancing

productivity and communicating with customers, suppliers and the public. Managers use

computers for a variety of reasons, including keeping their teams on track, budgeting and

planning projects, monitoring inventory and preparing documents, proposals and presentations.

The use of computers in typical businesses has redefined workplace practices, operational

metrics and business models. Top management and key business executives have been able to

influence the various capabilities of computer-based systems and efficiency software

technologies to get a better handle on business operations, channelize employee productivity and

address calculated goals. Organizations and businesses perform thousands of transactions,

because of computers. As the aforementioned reasons have stated, it is proof that almost all the

work is done with the computers help and sufficiency. The importance of computers have not

been dissipated, in fact they have been updated and are now, much more needed from variety of j

obs, especially managing businesses.

Generally, Open Source software is software that can be freely accessed, used, changed,

and shared (in modified or unmodified form) by anyone. Open source software is made by many

people, and distributed under licenses that comply with the Open Source Definition. What would

happen if all software were open source, so that anyone could go in and change anything in any

program? A few seconds ago, as I was typing the question, the only thing that came to mind, was

the fact that a work that had effort put in, and well-made would be ruined. All programs accessed

by this hacker or this person with programming skills would either be ruined, or be changed for

the better. I think this comes in 2 ways. One, is that a wack program, would all be transformed to

programs that people would access daily, or in other words, people would actually catch interest

on, and two, a great software would be ruined.

Most people would say that, People would be happy and our planet would be a better

place. Here is why people think so: 1) It would become apparent how ugly and broken the source

code of old products and systems is. 2) Serious security vulnerabilities would be localized and

fixed. 3) Court cases of copyright theft would surge, now that the evidence is all in the open. 4)

Small companies would build businesses around famous software products that are now GPL

licensed. 5) The software escrow business would collapse. 6) Downloads would increase

enormously for some period of time. 7) Closed source software vendors would tighten up their

trademark policies significantly. 8) Closed source software vendors would fund a huge lobby to

revert the decision to open source everything, and generally the world would continue to work as

well as before, probably even better.

The aforementioned statements pretty much sums up what would happen when things go

the way the question was given. I may have come only on the pro’s side of the story but I feel

that if it makes the world a better place, then why not? Open source has been one of the most
INTRODUCTION 3

significant cultural developments in IT and beyond over the last two decades, and has shown that

individuals, working together over the Internet, can create products that rival and sometimes beat

those of giant corporations. It has also shown how companies can become more innovative, more

nimble and more cost-effective by building on the efforts of community work. If you are an open

source advocate, you should be excited. Open source is continuing to grow in importance as the

framework for intelligent computing from enterprise environments to smartphones to yes – the

car in your driveway.

All is unknown as of right now, but they are a little predictable. Previously, I was

speaking of the future. 10 years from now, cars won’t need assistance; they probably would all

go manual. 10 years from now, things would all change, in its most upgraded form ever. 10 years

from now, all technology will be updated and old versions will be forgotten, because newer,

faster and better technology will rise. 10 years from now, if I was to use newer devices of the

newer generation, doing research, I am pretty sure I wouldn’t be touching an iPhone screen or

typing a keyboard of a computer or a laptop. I would probably be doing what people in the

movies do; probably swipe from the air and come a web it will do. It would be much easier. I

think I won’t be having problems doing my homework and all; a robot probably would help me.

The apps of the future is untold but there are a few apps that are needed in this world and I have

a strong feeling that they will exist in 10 or 20 years’ time.

Our world is transformed by rapid advances in sciences and technology that are touching

every aspect of our lives. So what changes could these developments bring about for life as we

know it? We only have to look around us to see just how much can change in a relatively short

space of time. As we look ahead, the decade could be shaped by advances in nanotechnology,

information technology, vertical farming, artificial intelligence, robotics, 4D printing,

super-smart materials, neuroscience, the biological sciences and genetics. In the next decade

upwards of 100 billion objects from smartphones to street lamps and our cars will be

connected together via a vast ‘internet of everything’. This will impact every aspect of

our lives - for example it could transform the criminal justice system.

By 2025, evidence in a court case will include data taken from body worn cameras and microphones and

sensors in everyday objects such as clothing, furniture and even our coffee cups - proving exactly what

happened and who was present at the scene of a crime (Talwar, Our lives in 2025: What the world

will be like in 10 years' time).

The wide-open Web of peer production, the so-called generative Web where everyone is free to create

what they want, continues to thrive, driven by the nonmonetary incentives of expression, attention,

reputation, and the like. But the notion of the Web as the ultimate marketplace for digital delivery is

now in doubt. In 2020, most people will prefer to use specific applications (apps) accessible by

Internet connection to accomplish most online work, play, communication, and content creation.

The ease of use and perceived security and quality-assurance characteristics of apps will be seen

as superior when compared with the open Web. Most industry innovation and activity will be

devoted to apps development and updates, and use of apps will occupy the majority of

technology users’ time. There will be a widespread belief that the World Wide Web is less

important and useful than in the past and apps are the dominant factor in people’s lives. With all

the updates, i have come to the final decision that i will be using the most updated app for

research and for everything else.

According to researches, and continuous surveys, when given the privilege to answer

regarding pen vs. computer communication, one of the many students replies, “One of the

reasons some students favor handwriting is the role it plays in learning and retaining

knowledge,” she said. "Many of the students in our study found [that] making handwritten notes

leads to greater retention of data than if it is typed.” This, previous statement is the one spirit all

should have stilled in their hearts, and I mean students specifically. The very first Course

Learning Outcome(CLO’s) that was given, is what I apply daily. I have used basic features of

computer applications to communicate effectively with peers, parents and teachers as well. On

paper is something, I believe is more effective that computer apps. Hence the previous reply

from a student of the University of Surrey. I believe whole heartedly in the importance of paper

writing. It does play a role that a teacher cannot master. It’s a self-learning process. There are no

further words that I can use to display how effective and significant paper writing is, when used

other than computer apps for communication.

The World Wide Web is a reliable resource for gaining access to information of all kinds,

including historical, and each day a greater number of sources become available online. The

internet offers tremendous advantages for students all over the world. It is important to know that

the Web is an unregulated resource, but yes, of course a helpful source at that too. Utilizing

online resources for research is the second CLO that I do not need ICT requirements to learn and

use to apply, because it is what I use every day since I have started my life educationally.

Searching online for assignments and answers is an effective means of learning as well. The

more research you apply to find leads or answers, is the more information you give the brain to

insert, in which can help for future reference. Resources proves evidence. A web resource is

anything that can be obtained from the World Wide Web. Some examples are web pages, e-mail,
REFLECTION #5 3

information from databases, and web services. Without these very resources, we are somewhat

clueless. For research, we get answers, and resources gives sources that proves that we don’t own

the rights to the stated facts but, we are temporarily using them for more evidence or to prove

whatever point we are trying to display, and prove to whatever audience you have intended to

impress and persuade that you are not a fraud or whatsoever. My whole life I have applied

almost all the 4 CLO’s and they are the biggest impact in my educational life. They provide,

instill, and help me attain the accomplishments I have set goals to act upon, for success. It is no

secret that without sources, paper writing, sources, and computer apps, I and we, would barely be

given the privilege to make it out of the struggles thrown our way. I am knowledgeable because

of the help of these sources.
