Space Exploration Jeopardy

Lesson Preparation
Learning Objectives:
1. Students will be able to recall information learned throughout the unit.
2. Students will be able to work as a group to play a review game.

Standards:
21st Century:
 IX. Global Connections: Give examples of conflict, cooperation and interdependence
among individuals, groups, and nations;
 Communicate Clearly: Articulate thoughts and ideas effectively using oral, written
and nonverbal communication skills in a variety of forms and contexts
NCSS:
 Global Connections: Give examples of conflict, cooperation and interdependence
among individuals, groups, and nations
 Science Technology, and Science: a: Identify and describe examples in which science
and technology have changed the lives of people, such as in homemaking, childcare,
work, transportation, and communication
PA Standards:
 3.3.4.B1: Identify planets in our solar system and their basic characteristics. Describe
the earth’s place in the solar system that includes the sun (a star), planets, and many
moons.

Academic Language:
 Thrust: The force that moves the aircraft through the air. Rockets and planes both use
thrust to move them in the air/space
 Astronaut: a person who leaves earth and goes into space, typically for purposes of
exploration
 Orbit: Rotating around the earth in an oval, or flattened circle
 Gravity: force which tries to pull two objects toward each other

 Jeopardy review game

Instructional Delivery
Anticipatory Set:
1. The teacher will ask the students what they remember learning about the unit of space
exploration.
a. The teacher will call on a few students to answer

Instructional Activities:
1. The teacher will divide the class into 3 groups to play the game. The groups will
create a team name.
a. The groups will be a mix of learning levels
2. The groups will take turns choosing and answering questions. One student in the
group will choose the question and the whole group can discuss to answer the
question. The same student may not say the answer to every question for the group,
students in the group must take turns saying the answer.

3. After the game is finished the students will return to their seats.

Closure:
1. The class will review the space race timeline they created during the unit.
2. The teacher will review any content the students may have questions about.

Meeting all Learners:


Differentiation:
 Visual learners will be able to read the questions and answers on the board
 Audio learners will hear the questions read aloud and hear the answers shared by
classmates

Accommodations:
 Students with an IEP and/or 504 plan will be given the questions and answers from
the review game at the end of the lesson to use as a study guide.

Modifications:
 The activity for this lesson does not have any modification for students, however the
summative assessment will be modified for students with an IEP and/or 504 plan.

 The teacher will listen to the students answers to see if they know the material that
was taught during the unit (objective 1)
 The teacher will watch the interaction of the groups to ensure they are working
together (objective 2)
