Introduction
It has been a semester with so many learning outcomes for me. Technical Communication

course helped me in writing professional documents which will be a skill set that will be useful for

my future. I can definitely say that this class improved my writing skills substantially. The

innovative use of the movie/show corporations/companies as the main focus of our individual and

group projects definitely made it a fun course.

Individual Projects
Individual projects varied a lot in terms of subjects and topics. Majority of them were

related to our group projects. That gave me the freedom to further explore and expand the themes

we were writing about in our group projects. I tried to make our story even more believable by

adding detailed explanations. For the assignments like the complaint letter and the infographic, I

used my personal experiences that happened. I reflected upon my own experiences and wrote about

things that are really important for me. The infographic assignment was also helpful in terms of

teaching me how to design a document, make it short, to the point and stylish. Creating this e-

Portfolio was also beneficial for me. It made me learn how to create a professional website. In the

near future I am planning to create a website which will include the programs I’ve written so far

and display my Resume for potential recruiters.

Group Projects
Group projects were really fun for me to participate in. We have taken on the identity of

Weyland Corporation and taken on the persona of the evil-mega corporation. We had to do a lot

of research in order to make our proposals, statements and reports as believable as we could. Due

to this reason I believe that my research skills have improved substantially. We always worked on

the assignments as a group, so our teamwork skills and capabilities got developed as well. Idea

creation was an essential part of our group projects, so we did lots of brainstorming to come up

with ideas that were worth expanding. Group projects were really helpful in teaching all of us the

importance of proper allocation of time and sharing of responsibilities.

Textbook Assignments
Textbook assignments had a more serious tone in comparison to our Individual and Group

Projects. They were also the assignments that showed me how to write a professional document

the most. “The Essentials of Technical Communication” provided me with a guideline on how to

write a serious, properly formatted and to the point document. Textbook assignments were also
helpful for various communication strategies for different target audiences. Overall, I can clearly

say that the textbook assignments especially improved my organization skills as well.

Summary

I believe that ENGL 2116 helped me a lot in understanding the professionalism required

in business and work life for my future career. The assignments provided me guidelines on how to

respond to different requests. I also enjoyed the freedom that was offered to us on this course. In

majority of the assignments, we had the option of choosing our project from different topics. This

resulted in the free-flow of my creativity. Thanks to this course, now I am more confident in my

ability to express myself more professionally. As an international student who wants to establish

a career in USA, ENGL 2116 provided me with the foundations of how to communicate properly

in business life. It showed me the importance of planning and teamwork as well.
