Explanation of above or below activities:

This week began with excitement; my students and cooperating teacher were warm and welcoming. Monday I
participated in my first PBIS meeting, and was able to give noteworthy suggestions and meet the committee members.
On Tuesday, we took STAR Reading and had garden class, (which is my favorite) the students created garlands full of
fruits and nuts to attract birds in the winter. We also had a staff meeting, which I missed due to seminar. On
Wednesday, we took STAR Math, and I encountered a lot of behavior from one student in particular. On Thursday, we
followed our routines and got the news that on Friday School would be canceled due to inclement weather.

Due to inconvenient weather and our Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday off, I went back to school on Thursday. This
impacted plans and most content is carying over to the coming week. On the two days we were there, I tought math for
about 40 minutes. I was only able to introduce some vocabulary and delve slightly into LCD. Next week I plan to do less
whole group instruction and more ceters because some students are getting ready for mixed numbers and some need
exta support. Next week I begin to teach writing as well.

Tuesday and had to replan my lesson for the rest of the week (W,TH,F). I gained feed back from my supervisor, Ct and
5th grade team. In the coming week, I will be teaching math, science, and writing. However, this week I am only
planning for Math and Science.

This week was so busy, I took over 3 subjects. I started the week with low confidence but I felt like I had the most
growth. Some of my students gave me feedback on my teaching, several of them told me I that math was fun! Also, on
Friday we gained a new student, he typically stays in a self-contained classroom but he is going to start joining my
class most of the day. I am looking forward to seeing how the new environment affects him. Next week will be my first
full week of teaching all subjects.

Explanation of above or below activities:

This was my first week teaching all subjects, Monday felt right, but on Tuesday my math lesson was not so great, my
students were confused with rectangular model equations. On Wednesday, I used rectangular model transparencies to
clarify the confusion from the previous day and my field experience coordinator came to observe me and said I did
extremely well. Thursday was productive in all subjects with my students. On Friday, the teacher next door had a sub
and I ended up taking two extra students with behavior issues but they did well and even participated in my lessons.
Next week I will continue to teach all subjects. However, Friday and Monday are weather days and the school will be
closed for both students and teachers. I am wondering how that is going to inmpact my 10 consecutive days.

Explanation of above or below activities:

This was a short four-day week. It flew by as I taught all subjects. For the most part I believe the week was productive.
However, in the subject areas of science and writing, I feel like my students were under a lot of pressure to complete
the assigned work. For writing I had some students finish their historical figure biographical essay, but several of my
students were not done and I could tell they wanted to be. The coming week will be a short week as well. Students and
teachers return to school on Tuesday, as for me though Tuesday will be a boot camp day, so I’ll be going to school on
Wednesday, which makes me a little anxious since my CT will be introducing new material and we have differing
teaching styles. When I return I plan to finalize my 10th consecutive day. Thursday and Friday I will only teach math,
science and writing.

Explanation of above or below activities:

Due to a weather day on Monday and Boot Camp on Tuesday, I only attended Morris 3 days. It was shorter than usual
but stressful; the majority of my students did not behave mindfully. I yelled at them 3 times on Friday. This coming
Monday, I plan on talking to them about last week and cultivating a better learning environment. There were however
some things I personally enjoyed; Morris honored Black History so nicely by holding events sponsored by the staff and
students. On Thursday during lunch, we had one of the middle school teachers preform cover songs live with his band.
Then a female student recited a poem by Maya Angelou embracing femininity and blackness. Lastly, a male student
covered My Girl by The Temptations. On Friday we had an event in the cafeteria called a Living Wax Museum, each
student in middle school researched a historical figure, and then dressed up to portray them. The audience walked
around pressing buttons to hear whom the students were. It was felt wonderful to see so much involvement! The

Explanation of above or below activities:

This week was my last week in the 5th grade. By far it was the longest week because I was a chaperone for 2 nights
and 3 days at Camp McDowell. Camp was extremely fun for the students, everyday they were given the opportunity to
lean and explore with limited resources and exposure to the wilderness. It was a great experience for me as well
because there were nature instructors and science specialists who modeled different teaching strategies. On Thursday,
our first full day of school was a miserable drag. Several students were absent, the ones who were there were overly
talkative and we had two students who got suspended from attending the remainder of the week. Friday I got to reshoot
and teach all day. Next week, I begin the second placement down the hall with Dr. Shouten in SPED.

This was my first week in Special Education. My new CT is Dr. Schouten, her dissertation was in self-regulating
strategies that help students become more active learners. She has been working at Morris for 10 years plus in the
special education sector. She services students grades 3-5, she operates through the student pullout method. Her case
load consists of about 27 students. She manages to meet with each of them daily (except Fridays) by pulling them in in
groups of 4 or 5. Her groups are determined by student's IEP goals, level of performance and behavior. This week I got
to meet all but one of them who happened to be absent this week. I observed some of Dr. Schouten's daily
responsibilities and strategies that she uses with the students. I also got to attend 4 IEP meetings, teach 3 groupm, ask
questions and make sujestions.

This week was very interesting; I attended several different types of meetings, some of which included reevaluation
meetings, referral meetings and IEP meetings. I was fortunate to gain permission from all of the parents to attend the
meetings. Each meeting was unique and full of learning opportunities. One reevaluation meeting in particular was
recorded and lasted almost two hours, it was extremely eye opening and a bit scary. The parent was accompanied by
an advocate who carried herself professionally and demonstrated a deep understanding of the special education realm.
Though, her presence throughout the meeting was very intense it went well, the IEP team discussed points of concern
and the meeting ended in concurrent terms on both sides. As a future educator, I learned that talking or giving too much
information during a meeting can get you into trouble, anything that you state can be used against you if you do not
have the documentation to back you up.
