 QUALITIES OF A RESEARCHER
 Awareness of the possible drawbacks and shortcomings of research
is very essential on the part of a good researcher. By knowing it
before, the researcher may try to minimize such problems, although
it is well high impossible to claim complete perfection of a research
work.
 The researcher should not only be careful in selecting the research
tools but also properly trained so as to use these tools to procure
reliable and valid data.
 The researcher should be able to utilize his time properly in a
balanced manner.
 If one is confused with so many things to do, will end up doing
nothing. So, planning ahead is important. A research has to be
systematic in his schedules and reasonable in setting his priorities.
 Besides the required intelligence, a researcher must be curious and
inquisitive enough for his research study. A good research sees
something more out of a common occurrence around him. And he
sees his quickly. He has to make use of books, notes, videos, and
most important of all in today’s world the internet.
 A researcher needs to be patient and should have perseverance to
face repeated failures while trying to get the desired results. This
will help him to continue to work smoothly.
 A researcher is keen to repeat experiments again and again after not
getting the desired results.
 A researcher should be good in oral and written skills in order to
present the information in an easily understandable manner.
PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED BY A RESEARCHER

 Researcher generally, gives little importance to his own well-being

and that for his family. He tends to ignore what might become
serious health issues and financial troubles as he has to choose his
spending of incomes between his family needs and research needs.
This would lead disruption of family relations and well-beings.
 The research methodology is not systematic. Many researchers
undertake research work without having actual knowledge of the
research methods. They just look for similar studies and copy the
methodologies listed in it. Even the research guides do not have a
thorough knowledge of the various methodologies. This scenario
warrants the need for some sort of short-term training to be imparted
to researchers prior to undertaking research activities.
 For performing a quality research sufficient funds are not
provided. This discourages research of all types. Governments,
institutions/organizations don’t appreciate the contributions of
research findings to economic development and for that reason do
not offer adequate amounts for research of all types.
 Scanty Information Base narrows down the volume and quality of
literature accessible to a researcher. Put simply, not much research
findings have been collected from where a researcher can take help.
 Many a time problems of conceptualization and problems
concerning the procedure for data collection and related things crop
up leading to frittering of resources.
 Research studies overlapping one another are carried out in many
cases for want of adequate information.
