“Genghis Khan Case”

Defendant Side

My Role: Paralegal for defendant side

Result: We lost the case

We had some witnesses who presented to prove that Genghis Khan was not

guilty but I think the most convincing evidence was presented by the Mongol Warrior

(played by Laiba) because I think that her point showed that Genghis Khan cared about

his workers and he also considered their hard work and gave them rewards in the form

of promotions. She also pointed out that Genghis Khan didn’t paid any attention to what

religion or race you have, he just wanted your hardwork and dedication. Her evidence

tells us that Genghis Khan was a good person, he wasn’t racist at all. These evidences

were important because it reflects Genghis Khan’s personality. On the other hand, our

opposite side also had some witnesses and the most convincing evidence was given

the Chinese Pop (played by Kerri Gelin) since her main point was that her whole family

is killed by Genghis Khan. Her point created the most trouble for our side because she

portrayed a very religious character and her mentioning that her entire family was killed

by Genghis Khan shows that he was cruel and he didn’t showed mercy to his family.

Her evidence weakened our case because then he is being accused of murdering

innocent people which is not forgivable in the eye of court.

The most helpful aspect of the simulation was that everyone had a chance to

provide evidences to support their claims. Every witness from both sides was given a

chance to talk about their experience or thoughts on Genghis Khan to the audience and

the jury. Every attorney/paralegal had a chance to interrogate witnesses from both sides

to prove their claims right. This was helpful because everyone had a fair chance to do

their roles completely and correctly. However the aspect of the simulation that could be

improved was that not everyone from defendant team was present at the time of case

hearing which makes it more difficult for the defendant side to prove Genghis Khan not

guilty. I had a hard time defending Genghis Khan because I was the only

paralegal/attorney present while prosecution side had their whole legal team present in

the court which was unfair for me because I had to do all the interrogation and had to

read the opening and closing statements by myself. So if my whole legal team would

have been present at that time, I think we might have won the case. Other than that I

think the whole simulation was fair and interesting.
