Dear Parents/ Guardians,

My name is William Miller and I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to be student
teaching in Mrs. Robertson’s class over the next ten weeks. I am currently in the Winona State
Elementary Education program here in Rochester and I am looking forward to spending time
getting to know each of the students in classroom. This is my Senior year in the program and I
am extremely excited to meet the students, and I am ready to learn a lot from Mrs. Robertson.
I have spent my whole life around people. Growing up I had a large family of nine, let’s
just say there wasn’t much time to myself, but that never bothered me. For the most part I got
along with my siblings and enjoyed teaching my younger sister and brother new things. By the
time I graduated my oldest sister was married and had her first daughter. Ever since I held my
niece for the first time I knew I wanted to focus my career on something with younger kids. But
it wasn’t until I got a job at Hiawatha Homes that I made the decision to become a teacher. I
have been working at Hiawatha Homes in the family supports center program here in Rochester
for five years now. I started as a direct support staff in the school age program to get some
experience working one on one with students after school. Then two years ago I took the team
leader position to plan the activities for the individuals along with working individually with
each of them. I understand that I have a lot left to learn about teaching, but I feel like in many
ways this job has helped prepare me for what lies ahead as I journey further into the world of
elementary education.
Before getting into the education program I lived in Stewartville Minnesota which is just
south of Rochester. I did all of my schooling there and spent my time participating in soccer,
band, speech, theater along with several other activities. Since I graduated I have been working
at Hiawatha Homes I have really enjoyed getting to know each of the individuals I support.
Along with work I have spent the last few years at RCTC getting my associates in arts, and
elementary education. Then I was accepted into the Winona program in Rochester. My hope is to
learn as much as I can during my student teaching so that when I get my own classroom I can
provide the best education as possible for my students. I am looking forward to working with
each student and hopefully meeting some of you during my time here at Lincoln.

Sincerely,
William Miller
