Instructions to the teacher candidate: Please reflect on your professional

performance, and respond to each of the following prompts.
1. In terms of the ADEPT Performance Standards, what are your professional
strengths? How have you built on these strengths so far, and how do you
plan to do so in the future?
In terms of the ADEPT Performance Standards my professional strengths are
short range planning, establishing and maintaining high expectations,
maintaining an environment that promotes learning, planning assessment, using
effective instructional strategies, and professional responsibilities. Short range
planning is a strength because I complete my weekly lesson plans in a timely
manner, and I stick to what I plan.

Establishing and maintaining high expectations is a strength because now my

students know what is expected out of them without me having to tell them. They
also are aware of consequences if those expectations are not met. Maintaining
an environment that promotes learning is a professional strength because I come
in each day with a positive attitude, warm smile, and I greet my students. Student
work is displayed on the wall along with anchor charts, and classroom rules. The
classroom is clean as well. I praise my students regardless of if he or she
answered the question correctly. I also encourage them to have confidence and
answer questions, even if their unsure if their correct. These are all factors to
maintain a classroom that promotes learning, in a positive way.

Planning assessment is a great strength because I incorporate technology.

I create weekly Kahoot review games prior to testing, and sometimes the
students test on paper or their iPads. I know the content and I understand and
know what the students should be tested on. With that being said I’ve created
most of the student’s assessments. Using effective instructional strategies has
not only kept students engaged but it also allows me to reflect back on what I
taught. Some instructional strategies give me insight on student mastery level.
I’ve expanded to using different instructional strategies from experience based on
how it went with my students. My professional responsibilities are still to be
respectful towards every staff member at Rivelon Elementary, do not gossip
about students or staff members. I’ve been a team player by helping other staff
with events at school.

2. In terms of the ADEPT Performance Standards, what are your professional

challenges? How do you plan to meet these challenges?
I continue to strive towards monitoring students and classroom management
skills and techniques to maximize instructional time.

3. Describe your students’ overall progress and achievement. What insights

have you gained into ways to improve student progress and achievement?
I’m very proud of my students overall progress and achievement academically,
socially, and personally. Some of my students have continue to make academic
growth. To improve student progress and achievement I’ve created a house cup.
Each student is placed in a group. Points are awarded for answering questions
correctly, turning in homework, being on task, coming to school, and making A’s
on their assessments. They now hold their group members accountable for
turning in homework assignments and having good behavior. Other insights I’ve
gained is to incorporate student’s interest into my lesson plans. My students love
using technology and music. In my lesson plans I incorporate the use of
technology more, for example some of the student’s assessments are taken on
their iPads. I’ve also included more videos and if possible sing along teachable
and educational songs. The insights I’ve gained to improve student progress and
achievement is by listening to their concerns and wants when they tell me. I also
talk to my students about appropriate non-school things to get to know each of
them. My students know that I care about them and it makes them more
receptive, and willing to trust me when I’m teaching and trying to get them all to
grow and achieve their goals.

4. How will you use the knowledge you have gained through this professional
self-assessment to promote your continuous professional growth and
collaboration?
The knowledge that I’ve gained through this professional self-assessment to
promote continuous professional growth and collaboration is to constantly strive
to be better than I was yesterday. As I reflect on my student teaching experience
thus far I believe that I have grown throughout my clinical experience. In the
future I would collaborate with veteran teachers on teaching strategies to
differentiate assignments for those students who’ve mastered the content. I
would also seek out a veteran teacher as a mentor as a new teacher.
