IRI measures: grade level reading, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, oral reading accuracy

The Informal Reading Inventory is an on-going assessment, and should be completed several
times throughout the child's schooling. If a child is struggling, the inventory should be done
more often in order to have an accurate picture of the child's progress.

Reading Fluency: How many words a child reads correctly in one minute.
Readers Theater – the rehearsing and performing before an audience of a dialogue-rich script
derived from a book.
Repeated Readings – students read the same passage multiple times.

the book three to five times total.
Paired Readings – in pairs, students take turns reading aloud to each other. More fluent
readers can be paired with less fluent readers.
Cloze Procedures – words are omitted from a passage, and student “fills” in the blanks
Echo Reading – teacher reads a short segment from a passage/text, and students echo it back
to the teacher.
Story maps – helps student identify story elements.
