- Students will be able to identify the characters, setting, problem, and solution in Strega Nona
- Students can accurately identify the beginning, middle and ending of Strega Nona
- Students will be able to describe the relationship between illustrations and the story in which they
appear (e.g. what moment an illustration in a story depicts).
- Actively engage in group reading activities with purpose and understanding.

Writing Workshop Targets:

- Students will revise present, past and future tenses


- Students will be able to use past and present tense in a piece of writing to compare and contrast
events in the past and in the present

Speaking and Listening Targets:

- Students will be able to orally describe and compare events of the past and present

UNIT ON POETRY WRITING

Learning Targets:

(Weeks 17 & 18) Vocabulary Targets:

- Students will explore a range of different types of poetry including autobiographical poems, cinquain, color poem, haiku,
limericks, rhyming poems, shape poems, five senses poems

- Students will learn writing skills and styles relating to poetry writing including syllables, rhyming, alliterations, similes

- Students will be able to identify syllables in words and sentences

- Students will be able to identify rhymes within sentences

- Students will be able to identify alliterations and similes within poetry

Writing Workshop Targets:

- Students will be able to write an autobiographical poem
