As a recent graduate from The University of Houston, I have my Bachelors Degree in Teaching
and Learning EC-6. I am working on my endorsement in ESL certification and plan to have that
completed by August. My ability to create a positive environment for students, individual
teacher-made activities/worksheets, and plan for differentiated instruction will enable me to be
a great asset to the Houston Independent School District.

During my placement as a student teacher at Pilgrim Academy in Houston, I independently

taught a kindergarten class. Due to the huge diversity in this school, I realized the importance of
differentiated instruction firsthand. I was provided with an opportunity to improve my lesson
planning skills, while learning how to properly incorporate differentiation within my lesson
plans. I was able to attend to all of my students’ academic needs; every student’s experience
was enriched by differentiation lessons for different learning styles, ELLs, cultural, and socio-
economic needs. I incorporated a lot of hands-on activities, as well as teacher-made activities to
engage learners. I applied a handful of assessments to ensure verification of successful
comprehension and understanding throughout each unit. Above all, I encouraged students to
take on a very active responsibility for their own learning. I think it is important for the students
to find their own meaning and connections so that they are in control of their own learning.

After working with this Title 1 school, I have truly found a deeper understanding and passion for
educating young minds and it the kind of school I am seeking a job opportunity in. I don’t want
my job to be easy; I want every day to be a learning experience, not only for my students, but
also for myself. I want to learn and grow each and every day and I want to be able to make a
huge impact on their lives. I hope to soon discuss with you how my experience and abilities can
