Question 3 – What have you learned from your feedback?

Question 3 is a review of of people critiquing my main product, and my ancillary texts. From this I
will be able to understand what I need to improve the standard of all 3 of my tasks for G324.

I put together 3 questionnaires to gain valuable feedback for my main product, digipak and
magazine advert and this was to highlight positive feedback whilst having constructive criticism.

Digipak

I asked the question of ‘What is you gender?’ because it

helps me understand what demographic I am looking at for
my digipak feedback and thus this could also help me
understand why they may be differing perceptions of my
digipak. An overwhelming 66.7% of the people who
completed the survey registered as female and the other
33.3% as male. Male and Females may have different perceptions on colour schemes as well as the
typography utilised in my digipak.

The second question I asked in my questionnaire is

‘What is your age group?’ as I thought this would be
valuable whilst evaluating my feedback because I know
understand the age groups who have viewed my digipak
and why their views may differ. This may be because
older generations may have different perceptions to a
younger demographic. The trend in my feedback is that
the people who completed the questionnaire are part of
a young demographic belonging to both 14 – 17 (16.7%)
and 18 – 21 (83.3%) age groups and this may result in similar feedback.

My third question ‘What is your favourite thing about the

digipak?’ directly links to my digipak and thus being a vital
piece of feedback. Overwhelming, the typography used in
my digipak was the favourite feature of 66.7% of people
surveyed. This means that I utilised an effective font of
typography which stood out to people and this is integral
because the most important things on my digipak is the
name of the artist name and the album name and because of the typography used, this has made
these features more bold and noticeable. Furthermore, 16.7% of people said their favourite feature
on my digipak was the image of the artist, which is encouraging because I purposely tried to
exemplify my artist on the digipak as he is the most important person and people acknowledged
this. 16.7% also said their favourite part of my digipak was the colour scheme. This is promising for
me because I used the colour yellow in order for my digipak to stand out from normal, mundane
albums and this was successful as it was some people’s favourite thing about my digipak. On the
other hand, the front cover, back cover and CD were not as successful as the others as it may have
Niall Armstrong

not been what they first focused on when looking at my digipak. I could improve this by creating a
completely different CD which may attract people as it doesn’t link with other parts of the digipak. I
could have made the song list on the back cover more prevalent which would have attracted people
to look at it, along with my company logo.

83.3% of people answered with they think

that my digipak appeals to the age range
of 18 – 21 and this could be due to the
appearance of the artist throughout my
digipak as he is in this age range and
therefore it is more relatable for people
around this age. The other 16.7% said that
my digipak appeals to 14 – 17 age range
and this could be due to the colour
scheme I have used as yellow is an exuberant colour which may appeal to this demographic. Not
only may this but the typography I utilised appeal to this age group because it has a futuristic look,
which may interest this younger age group. I believe this is successful because I aimed my digipak at
the overwhelming majority (18 -21).

My fifth question ‘What genre do you think

this magazine advert belongs to?’ highlighted
how I could improve the look of my digipak
to link to the Folk genre which I aimed to
fulfil. 80% of people selected the Indie genre
and the remaining 20% said Folk. This means
my digipak was not successful in imitating a
real folk music album because they failed to
recognize that my digipak is meant to be part of the Folk genre. On the other hand, nobody thought
it belonged to the Rock, Punk or EDM genre which means that I was slightly successful because these
genres aren’t as strongly linked with the Folk genre like indie is. The 80% of people who said that
they think my digipak belongs to the indie may not understand what Folk is, due to the age group
who completed this survey which is seen in question 2.

The penultimate question I asked was ‘Do you

think I completed my Digipak to a professional
standard?’ and this was a very successful because
100% of people who answered, answered ‘YES’
and thus believing that a professional company
could have made my finished digipak.
Niall Armstrong

For feedback purposes, I asked for any

improvements and I gained a range of answers
in which my digipak could be improved. An
overarching theme of variety informed me that
I could have used a variety of shots, costumes,
and perhaps props instead of having a similar
picture of the artist across my digipak to make
it look more professional and exciting. The
other improvements refer to the colour
scheme and I could do this by adding other distinct colours which make it more appealing to the
audience as well standing out more so audiences actually notice the product. One response said that
there was no improvements needed and therefore this shows how I have successfully created a
digipak to a professional standard.

Magazine Advert

I initially asked the question of ‘what is

your gender?. This was to gain an
understanding of the demographic who
answered my survey and why there may
be differing perceptions of my magazine
advert. 60% of people surveyed identified
as female and the other 40% as male.
Due to the fact the majority of the people
surveyed are female, the colour scheme
may be favoured as yellow is seen as a
gentle colour.

The second question I asked was ‘What is

your age?’. I chose this question because
it would help me understand how the age
group of people analysing my magazine
advert might impact the successfulness of
the advert. 100% of people identified in
the age bracket of 18 -21. This may
impact my magazine advert review
because the artist displayed on my advert
is also in the age bracket of 18 – 21 and
therefore the audience may see this as
being relatable and thus it may appeal to them more.
Niall Armstrong

The first question I asked which was

directly related to my magazine advert
was ‘What is your favourite thing
about the magazine advert?’. I asked
this to gain knowledge on what was
feature of my magazine advert stood
out the most and appealed to my
audience. 40% of people said the
image of the artist – this could be
down to the fact that they are in the same age bracket of the people who answered my
questionnaire and therefore they can relate to the magazine advert. Another 40% of people said
that their favourite feature of my magazine advert is the colour scheme. Due to the fact that 60% of
the people who answered my questionnaire identified as female, they might be attracted to the
colour scheme because yellow is a gentle and vibrant colour which is stereotypically related to the
female gender, but it also might be because the yellow and black complement each other very well.
Lastly, 20% of people said the typography is their favourite feature of my magazine advert which
signifies that the typography which I used was effective because people have noticed the important
information and some believe it is authentic and therefore it is their favourite feature of my
magazine advert.

This question relates to what genre of

music the audience think my magazine
advert is aimed at. 80% of people
surveyed say that my magazine advert is
aimed at the indie genre which means I
have been unsuccessful in creating an
effective folk magazine advert despite
20% of people identifying my magazine
advert as a folk magazine advert. These
maybes because I haven’t included many
conventions of the folk genre and instead I have left my magazine advert rather ambiguous.

This question relates to the age bracket,

which the people who answered my
questionnaire, think my magazine advert is
aimed at. 80% of people decided that it
belonged to the 18 -21 age bracket which
means I have ben successful as I aimed my
magazine advert along with my digipak and
music video at this age bracket. I did this by
Niall Armstrong

using an 18 year old actor which people can relate to as folk is a mature genre and listened to by a
more mature audience.

The penultimate question I asked

was ‘has my magazine advert been
completed to a professional
standard?’. The response I gained
from my questionnaire is that 100%
of people said that my magazine
advert has completed to a
professional standard and therefore I
have been successful in creating
what could be a real life media
product.

The last question I asked was whether

there could be any improvements for
my magazine advert. The first
response was that the magazine
advert was pixelated. I could have
improved this by dedicating more
time to ensuring that there was no
pixilation and improving my attention
to detail. The second response I
received was that the yellow was
‘blinding’. I could improve this by
incorporating more colours to take the attention off the luminous yellow. Another comment was
that the image of the artist was not cropped to perfection and again, I could easily rectify this by
improving my attention to detail and taking more time to perfect cropping. Someone also advised
using a different font for the banner which can be easily rectified by changing the typography of the
banner to make it more appealing to my audience. Finally the last response I gained was that there
was no room for improvement which means that to some people, my magazine advert is very
effective the way it is.

Interview questions

For question 3, I devised a series of questions which would give me feedback on all 3 of parts of
G324 (Music video, Digipak and Magazine advert). This helped me gain a better understanding of
how successful and effective my music video, digipak and advert is. I interviewed 3 people to have
a range of criticism and opinions.
