Every Rotarian joins Rotary for his or her own reasons. Often, the reason someone
decides to join isn't the same as the reason that person ultimately decides to stay.
When I was asked to join Rotary, I accepted because I thought it would be a good
way to get more involved in my community. In the end, though, what really got me
excited about Rotary service was something I didn't even know about when I joined:
our Rotary Foundation.
I knew I could do plenty of good work through my Rotary club in Norman, Okla., USA.
But through our Foundation, I could have a hand in the work of every single Rotary
club and district around the world. I could look at any Foundation-supported project,
any Foundation program, any country that was declared polio-free, and say: I helped
make that happen.
Once I realized that, there wasn't any turning back.
I've been very fortunate that over the years, I've gotten to see an incredible amount of
our Foundation's work firsthand. The more I see, the more passionate I become about
our Foundation. When you visit a school for AIDS orphans and meet the kids who are
being cared for, educated, and taught a trade - and when you know, as you look into
their faces, that if it weren't for our Foundation, they would be sleeping on the street,
eating out of the trash - you don't ever see our Foundation in the same way again.
We are in the middle of one of the most exciting years we have ever known for our
Rotary Foundation. We've just rolled out a new grant model, one that will challenge
and inspire us all to think bigger and to develop more ambitious projects that will have
a more lasting impact. We've accepted a new challenge from the Bill & Melinda Gates
Foundation, which has committed to match, two to one, every Rotarian dollar contributed
to polio eradication for the next five years, up to US$35 million per year. And we are
now fighting the final battles in our war against polio - a war we are absolutely committed
to win.
Our Foundation's goal always has been Doing Good in the World. With our new grant
model, we aren't going to be satisfied with simply doing good. We will do the most
good we can, in the most lasting ways possible - for the people who need us the most.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Service,
District Governor’s Message
You are all aware that November is designated as the Rotary Foundation month. It is
because of the Rotary Foundation we are able to do several huge projects in our
district. Rotary Foundation is the primary source that every Rotarian looks at for
resources. We need to know the good things which the Rotary Foundation is doing in
the world. Foundation Month presents an excellent opportunity to focus on increasing
our overall knowledge of the Rotary Foundation and the good work it does both in the
local community and internationally.
It is because of the support from the Rotary Foundation we are able to do huge projects
in our Rotary District. We are able to distribute thousands of School Desks, Sewing
Machines, Tricycles, hundreds of Reverse Osmosis Water plants, Milch Cattle,
Borewells etc. in our district. The new grants structure directs us to think big and
develop huge projects that will have long lasting and sustainable impact on the society.
Also as you are all aware, our war against polio is almost coming to an end. I am sure
we will finish this battle on polio very soon. This is just because of existence of our
Rotary Foundation. Hence we need to strengthen and support the foundation with our
contributions. Now it is the time to pull up our socks and raise substantial amounts,
during this part of the year, to serve the ever increasing needs of the less privileged.
Our pursuit to garner more resources for the foundation should not stop.
Our contributions, by whatsoever name we made them, are very valuable. Be it EREY,
PHF, PHS, 100% club contribution, 100% member contribution, APF, Polio Fund,
Endowment Fund etc., our contributions change lives of many. If you have not
contributed to the Rotary Foundation so far, this month of November is the right time
to contribute to the Foundation by way of various programs available such as, Every
Rotarian Every Year, Sustaining Member, Paul Harris Fellow, Benefactor to name a
few of the available avenues.
To learn more about the Rotary Foundation and to honor & recognize the Rotarians
who mastered the Art of Giving, I invite all of you to attend the District Rotary Foundation
Seminar which is going to be held on 1st December 2013 at Hyderabad details of
which are given elsewhere. Rotary Club of Bhagyanagar will be hosting the event.
Finally, I wish to mention that I am one of the proud contributors to the Rotary Foundation;
Are you? I honestly request all of you to make your contribution today so that our
tomorrows will continue to be with full of hope.
In Service I Remain,
Hari
