‘The two-bar truss ABC shown in Fig. 1-33 has pin supports at points A and C,
which are 2.0 mi apart, Members AB and BC are steel burs, pin connected at
Joint B. The length of bar BC is 3.0 m. A sign weighing 5.4 KN is suspended
from bar BC at points D and E, which are located 0.8 m and 04 m, respectively,
from the ends of the bar,
Determine the required cross-sectional area of bar AB and the required
diameter ofthe pin at support Cif the allowable stresses in tension and shear are
125 MPa and 45 MPa, respectively. (Note: The pins at the supports are in
double shear. Also, distegard the weights of members AB and BC.)

PRUEBA PARCIAL,
During a hurricane, some of the wires altached to a power pole are broken so that the
loading of the pole is as shown in the sketch. ‘There are two wires ill attached to the crossarm,
‘exerting loads of 400 Tb and $00 Ib parallel to the x axis. There is a transformer weighing
1,000 Ib whose center of gravity lies inthe yz plane distance of 20 ft above the ground and 2 ft
{rom the center of the pole. Neglect the weight of the pole. The poles buried in the ground for
‘adepth of 8 ft. Find the forces and moments which act on the buried sect
level G.
at the ground
‘An eloctrc motor is mounted in a three-point support as shown. The motor weighs 80 N,
which may be assumed to act at the center of the motor. Before starting, the bet tensions are
125 Neach. When running, the motor is delivering « torque of 2.7 Nem. What are the reactions
at the supports 4, B, and C when the motor is running?
