2.1 The box culvert is proposed to be analysed by considering one meter width of box
along traffic direction and live load combination for 3-lane configuration as per
IRC:06-2014 for design with coressponding intensity of loads as per effective width
method given in informative annexure B-3 of IRC:112-2011.
The Structure is alalysed as as a 2D frame using STAAD Pro V8i Software.

2.7 Effect of Temprature difference/ temaprature or thermal gradient

The thermal gradient is normally considered to be positive when the upper fiber of the
deck is warmer than the lower fiber of the deck. The hyperstatic moments generated by a
positive thermal gradient tend to compress the upper fiber of a beam. In the negative
(reverse) thermal gradient, the lower fiber of the deck is warmer than the upper fiber. The
hyperstatic moments generated by a negative thermal gradient stretch the upper fiber of
a beam.

The uneven 'internal disturbances' due t o temperature gradient along the deck section
can be represented by residual stress or load effects effect as shown below:
