Why use a temporary mount antenna?

Window clip and magnet mount antennas may be moved easily
from vehicle to vehicle. These antennas are ideal for portable
radio users and for rental cars. Remember, though, magnet
mount antennas will not work on fiberglass and nonmetal
vehicles. For these applications, it is better to use the window
clip design since no ground plane is required.

"On-Glass"® installation tip:

If an acidified alcohol surface treatment such as
Rain-X® has been applied to the glass, it must be
removed from the mounting area. Properties of
products like these reduce the holding ability of the
adhesive tape used to mount the “On-Glass” antenna
by 50 percent!
We recommend Bon Ami® or Ultra Brite® fluoride
toothpaste to remove Rain-X. Solid State

What is the industry standard for labeling gain measurements?

The current industry standard for a vehicular communications antenna is
EIA/TIA-329-B-1, September 1989, published by the Electronics Industry
Association. Presentation of gain is part of this standard. The reference antenna
described is a halfwave dipole (dBd).
An isotropic antenna is a theoretical, dimensionless point source with a completely
spherical radiation pattern. Since it has no directivity, any real antenna without
excessive loss will provide some amount of gain when compared to the isotropic.
APR852.3 Series For example, the EIA standard halfwave dipole can be shown to have
“On-Glass”, 3 dB gain with 2.14 dBi gain over the isotropic source while having unity gain when compared to
cable detachable from the itself as a reference (0 dBd).

Why use a roof mount antenna?

Roof mount antennas are the optimum choice for performance
considerations. At this height the antenna is free from any
vehicular obstruction. The roof also acts as a ground plane for
the antenna and actually becomes part of the antenna’s electrical
system. Since this type of antenna does require drilling a hole, it
is more suited for pickup trucks, cargo vans and large trucks
where aesthetics may not be as important.

The ActiveLink® Repeater is a bi-directional signal amplifier, powered

by a vehicle's electrical system. The signal from a portable phone is
received on the small ("inside") antenna mounted on the unit and is
boosted by up to 38 dB, enabling the portable unit to transmit at full
power level. Reception is also improved since the incoming signal is
amplified and redirected to the inside of the vehicle by the ActiveLink.
Packaged completely with "inside (stubby) antenna" and "hardwire"
power cord. "Outside antenna" available separately. Choose any
proper 800 MHz antenna with desired mounting configuration,

PageThru®
929-932 MHz
In-building Paging Repeater
Models
PR911 • PR911XB
Transparent to all Paging Formats – for instant integration into
any 900 MHz paging network, including FLEX
Synthesized Oscillator – provides field adjustable frequency
settings
Remote Control – TX/Standby – for precise network management
PC Programmable Transmit Power – allows customized
propagation patterns to fit each installation
Enhanced Narrow Band Selectivity – provides protection from
adjacent channel transmissions
LED Indicators – for operating status displays of “on”, “receiving”
and “transmitting” functions

Many critical paging transmissions occur in less than ideal oper-

ating environments such as hospitals, office buildings, shopping
malls, airports, hotels, subways and tunnels. These areas often
have insufficient RF coverage due to the blocking effects of their
structural design.

Designed to solve in-building coverage problems, PageThru plugs

holes in a 900 MHz paging network by retransmitting any blocked
signal within a facility. The unobtrusive repeater is transparent to
all paging formats including FLEX. Programmable frequency,
RSSI and power may be adjusted locally or remotely via modem
for offsite network management and maintenance. Its modular
plug-in circuitry includes optional battery backup ensuring ser-
vice integrity during electrical power outages. Because its power
output level is PC-programmable, propagation patterns may be
customized to fit specific installation needs, without causing harm-
ful side effects to simulcast systems.

Wireless repeaters provide radio frequency (RF) coverage to

areas which either lack signal or lack the required signal strength
for adequate mobile phone performance. Insufficient coverage
may occur both indoors and outdoors and can include such areas
as office buildings, parking garages, apartment buildings,
shopping malls and residential homes. The weak coverage
problem can be solved by installing an active repeater system
designed for use in a multitude of installation configurations.
Repeater systems provide an effective solution by redirecting,
filtering and amplifying the available signal at the donor antenna,
into the weak coverage area, through a properly selected interior
coverage antenna.

The EAC-50 repeater kit contains a low power, medium gain,

on-frequency bi-directional amplifier (BDA) supplied with an
exterior, highly directive antenna and low gain interior
omnidirectional antenna, specifically designed for low profile
indoor installations. For in-building configurations requiring
higher gain or directional illumination, such as a long hallway,
optional antenna models are available.

RG-58A/U cable, the 7.6 square inch (49 cm2) ceramic at the onset of 800/900 MHz applications to
magnet surface provides over twice the contact area provide noise-free operations for digital and
of previous magnet mounts for wireless data applications. The NMO design
better magnetic grip to vehicle mount is older and was intended for Low
bodies. Minimum test, 34 lb Band, VHF and UHF applications only.
(15.4 kg) pull. The K-166 style mount also offers a quality
K-350M — cable terminates 50 ohm impedance match. Since all wireless
with mini-UHF male systems are 50 ohms, a clear 50 ohm
K-350N — cable terminates impedance is desired to eliminate mismatch
with N male and loss at or near the antenna connection.
The NMO mount breaks into a split lead
K-350P — cable terminates with configuration which is undesirable in a high
PTFE-insulated UHF male (PL-259) frequency system.
K-350T — cable terminates with TNC male
While it may seem easier and cheaper not to
install a new mount when migrating to a
higher frequency system, the compromise in
system performance may be the ultimate
cost!
