Pre-K Standards:

V.C.1. Child names common shapes.

V.C.2. Child creates shapes.

Learning Center
Materials: 3 Shape templates with shapes and Velcro. 3 playdough containers.
Set Up:
I will set up the center in the math area of the room where the students can see the
different shapes posted by the door. I will have 2 place mats (used when playing with
playdough), 2 playdough containers and 2 shape templates set up for each student. I
will also have my own playdough and template for modeling and guided practice.
Learning Event: To start off the center I will ask students to name some shape names
that they already know. Next, we will look at the shape template together looking at
each shape. We will say the name of the shape for example square. I will say a square
has four sides while running my finger through each side of the square, then pointing at
each point of the square and finally asking the students to place the square to its
corresponding place on the shape template. I will do this for all 4 shapes. After going
over the sides and points of each shape, I will tell the students they can make shapes
using the playdough. I will show them how I make a circle with the playdough
Anticipated Modification(s):
Five questions to Ask (different levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy):

Remembering – What shapes did we talk about today?

Understanding – how many sides does a square have?
Understanding – How many sides does a rectangle have?
Analyzing – how is a square and a triangle different from each other?
Creating – Who can show me what a triangle looks like using the playdough?
