Modifications:
Wing Span: So originally I had a wingspan of 21.04 cm, but this is a little less than half
of the maximum of wingspan, which just so happens to 45 cm, so I increased the wingspan to
give it a longer capable flight, the longer the wings normally the better air lift.
Wing Chord: The wing chord needed to be 9cm projected while mine was 6cm so to give
a bigger boost I put it up to 9cm long, this allows for more air to push the wings up and get
better lift, cool right?
Body size: Here came the part that really needed modification because of the
requirements. The requirements are for the plane to be 30 cm long, my plane was 26.7 cm long.
That was a problem although I’m not sure why it has to be 30 cm long because that’s just
adding weight for no reason, and seems pointless. Nevertheless they are requirements so I
fixed them and now the plane is 30 cm long.
Wheels: The one thing to note is that in all of my designs for my plane, nowhere does it
include wheels, at all, whatsoever. This is because (it looks ugly in the design) I didn’t actually
think about adding the wheels till I got to making the plane and had the wings and tail finished
and everything. Then I overread on the requirements (and heard a conversation between a
fellow flight endurance participater and our teacher talking) that there needed to be wheels, so
I’m stuck there thinking how can I do the wheels? Also noting on the requirements that I can use
wire for my wheels I decide to go with the simple design of two wheels with the wire holding
them to the plane. Quite the weird and kind of useless design since it bends too easily but
whatever.
The propellor band.. Thingy (propellor mechanism): So this is the mechanism that
actually makes the propellor on the front of your plane spin so that it can fly farther. It’s a rubber
band attached to the back of the plane on the under belly and is attached to the propellor and
spun into a really tight spiral that when you let it go it spins the propellor and makes your plane
fly farther.

Flight Log

Flight # What happened Adjustments

Flight 1 Very first flight basic use, No primary adjustments

just testing to see if it even besides winding up the
glides. A bit surprised to rubber band a little more.
see it actually flies and
propellor functions and the
wings do carry it.

Flight 2 Actually starting to notice Re-adjusted propellor after

what needs to happen to crashing into chair and
the plane, plane flies a incidentally breaking it off.
solid 15 feet before
imminently crashing into an
obstacle or stalling.

Flight 3 Noticing the plane lists to Adjusted tail to help

the left, the plane made prevent listing to the left.
clear of obstacles (testing
inside the fab lab) but stalls
before it can do anything.

Flight 4 Plane lists to the left less To adequate for any listing
but still is stalling, propellor to the left and what stalling
band can also be tightened happens, plane is thrown a
a lot more than thought. little more downwards and
towards the left of the
desired direction.

Flight 5 Plane is thrown at too Wheels are readjusted to

much of an angle and hits original position
the ground with a little bit
more than necessary
amount of force, nothing
damaged besides the
wheels being bent.

-Break in flight testing-

Flight 6 Coming back to fab lab to Tail readjusted again from

notice plane has been being broken off, better
broken in several spots, placement of rubber band
propellor missing, tail holder , rubber band spins
broken off, wheels bent easier
out, tail is fixed and found
another propellor flight the
next day, plane flies pretty
much the same

Flight 7 Plane is left again for a Tail is readjusted once

couple of days, again again hopefully for a better
coming back to a more solid angle, cut out a
somewhat broken plane, new head for the propellor
once again tail is missing, to sit on, new tire made
propellor somewhere else, (slightly smaller) hopefully
one wheel gone, head no noticeable effect on
where the propellor sits is flight, plane wings
broken, pieces are refitted reattached together again
or cut, second wheel is
made only smaller than
original first wheel, had to
readjust the height of the
steel wire connecting the
wheels, tail is made once
again and replaced, luckily
nothing happened to wings
besides one of the
connectors were detached
from second wing creating
a wobbly wing, reglued,
plane flew the next day
satisfyingly enough

Flow chart

Bringing the flight designs to life

(Double sided wings to hold for a longer flight and more lift)

7
Adjusted to fit requirements of project, larger size better flight lift

8
Beginning body (fuselage) and first set of wings (bottom wings) as well as attached tail

Second set of wings paired, placed on boards to get a better angle on them, tail readjusted

9
Final set up with propellor and wheels attached ready to fly!
