Reflection
Parents' literacy skills, an immense impact on their children's academic achievement. Parenting
education, is a program which helps families actively participate in their children's education at
home and at school. How parents can use digital literacy to assist their children? First things are
the iPad, because many preschool programs are beginning to purchase iPads, for classroom use.
iPad can be used in a developmentally appropriate manner with young children. “Children come
to know literacy by interacting with their environment”. Apps that seemed viable to help meet
the teachers’ learning goals for development and learning, that had high level of interactivity,
required reading, writing, listening, and/or speaking. I will make a brochure that includes
everything about the “Planet Boing” app, the importance, the different areas of development and
the skills the child will learn.

“Planet Boing” the reward app by iLearn for alphabet, spelling and phonics. The target age is
for 4 - 5 years old. For kindergarten 1 and 2. This app is free and available in iOS. Planet Boing
app is an education game that motivate your child to keep on learning. Designed for iPad and
iPod touch, Planet Boing app offers an incredibly engaging, free play environment filed with
music, interactivity and bright, colourful animation, that motivate your child to build essential
skills in Math, Science, Literacy and more. iLearn with apps won numerous awards such as
“Best in Family-Friendly Products” – Moms’ Choice Awards, and “Brain Toy Award”. Your
child can customize and dress up a wide variety of fun playful, bouncing aliens using fun
accessories. Your child can then play with them by triggering a bunch of visual animations with
fun effects and unique music mix. The Planet Boing allow tour child to take pictures with the
cute little aliens they have created. The planet grows richer as your child plays with the Boings
and new decorations and character appears. The Planet Boing suport the Cross-curricular game-
based learning such as in ADEC curriculum, support the many learning outcomes KLPA5- listen
to similar ending phonemes in words. KLTC9- listen and respond to simple verbal questions.
KLLK1- explore letters through play. I think the Planet Boing app is useful for young age
because it designed with educational and child development experts. As well it engages the child
to learn more without feeling board. On the other hand, Homes vary on a wide variety of
dimensions. Many of these dimensions are associated with literacy learning, for example bedtime
stories, discussion of letters and sounds and amount of language. The second program is the
Engaging families workshop series. Shows video, hearing that Includes five workshops designed
to fit activities to families lives, Session 1 Literacy happens in the home, Session 2 Literacy
happens in the living room, Session 3 Literacy happens in the kitchen, Session 4 Literacy
happens in the bedroom and bathroom and Session 5 Literacy happens out and about.

The “Engaging Families” workshop focused on 6 key areas of literacy development. Takes
a strengths-based perspective. Session Structure is that dinner and social time around 30- 40
minutes. Welcome and introduction for 10 minutes. Video viewing and discussion around 15-
20 minutes. Literacy activities overview around 10- 15 minutes. Activity time with children
around 45- 50 minutes. Includes choice of activities for each area of literacy, activities designed
for easy transfer to homes, all necessary materials provided; many sent home. This program
supports the learning outcomes of ADEC curriculum such as KLCP2- explore print and pictures
in the environment and books. KRRT3- engage in read aloud. In my opinion I think this
workshop will lead to have a strong relationship between the child and his parents, he will spend
more time with them and learn at the same time.
