ANC BOKONE BOPHIRIMA POST SPECIAL PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE

COMMITTEE MEETING STATEMENT

The African National Congress (ANC) in Bokone Bophirima convened an urgent

Special Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) meeting on Wednesday at Embassy
Hall in Mahikeng.

The main agenda of the meeting was to discuss a decision by ANC deployee,
Provincial Chairperson Cde Supra Mahumapelo to announce in the media on
Tuesday that he would be stepping down from his position as Premier of the
province today (Wednesday).

The PEC deemed this matter urgent for the following reasons:

1. There is no structure of the organization that instructed the Premier, Cde

Supra Mahumapelo, to resign.

2. Therefore, there was no proper engagement by the PEC on the matter, as the
ANC leadership that decided on the party’s deployment of Cde Supra to the
Premier position. The PEC has instructed Cde Supra to withdraw his
resignation comments and any process thereof, until proper consultations
have been exhausted.

3. Only the ANC provincial leadership working with the national leadership can
recall a deployee or advise them to resign voluntarily once it’s satisfied with all
the facts presented and that there has been wrongdoing on the deployee’s
part.

4. There’s an Inter-Ministerial Committee that is busy with processes to find a

solution to the challenges that our province is facing. Until this IMC has
reported back and its report has been exhausted within the movement, there
is no reason for the Premier to step down.

The ANC PEC will continue consultations with the NEC and all relevant stakeholders
on this matter. The PEC extensively reflected on the matter on all issues, and
resolved that Cde Supra Mahumapelo must take leave from office as Premier of
Bokone Bophirima, and must appoint an Acting Premier.
The PEC also mandated the Provincial Working Committee to meet with the National
Officials to have further consultation on the matter.

It is therefore appropriate for the PEC after its meeting to retract a statement issued
on Tuesday night on behalf of the PEC accepting Cde Supra’s decision to exit his
deployment position. We regret the inconvenience caused by last night’s statement,
which should have ideally waited until the PEC had met, like it did today.

We also want to reiterate our support to the Provincial Chairperson, Cde Supra
Mahumapelo, to take legal action against the so-called Revolutionary Council on all
the allegations leveled against him. The PEC resolved that disciplinary processes
be implemented against ANC members who may have flouted the party’s
Constitution.

The PEC took a decision to organize a Provincial March of ANC structures with civil
society and non-governmental organizations to promote the programme of
Reconciliation, Healing and Renewal in order to return peace and heal the province.
