Document Development Exposition: Recommendation Report

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
To begin, it was a little confusing on how to start a recommendation packet. Most of all it was
hard to figure out the recommendation I wanted to give. The audience I was also trying to
relay behind took some time to figure out. There are a few organizations I considered but most
of all I wanted to focus on an organization that had some ground in the ivory topic and “save
the elephants” motto. I also wanted my audience to be an organization that could really make
a difference because of their influence and experience in the field.

First Draft
My first draft was short for the most part. I gave some background information because I
wanted to tie everything together with my topic. For this assignment, I thought it best to really
show everything I learned so far from the ivory trade to the animal abuse in circuses and zoos.
In general, it was an overall problem that others before me had found a solution to. What
made it difficult was trying to sound reasonable in my recommendation. I wanted the solution
to be somewhat believable and not asking too much from this organization.

Second Draft
My second draft was complete and only had some minor errors. These errors included spelling,
grammatical, and whitespace errors. Some of my sentences sounded a little broad and
therefore I expanded those sentences out. What I found hard to do was revising my paper
because I did not see much to revise. I had added in my references and I thought my
recommendation was very believable and plausible to do. I did reformat some of my images
to try and reduce the amount of whitespace.

Final Draft

My final draft had grammatical errors, whitespace errors, and vague sentences. Once again, I
found myself complicating my sentences too much as they could have been put in plain
language. I also reformatted my images once more due to the amount of whitespace that was
still left there. I also found that I needed to revise my recommendation paragraph again.
Writing it again, I did not want to put a recommendation that was very basic so I did stick with
my original recommendation; however, I did add-in a sentence that requested funds for this
project rather than the overall transportation.
