Overall aim and context of the lesson

Create Activities for the open day and provide different outdoor and indoor activities for the
students.

SWC Lesson Reflection (Completed after EVERY lesson taught)

While discussing a plan for an open day that has a carnival theme for the students on the 15th
of March 2018, I was working and planning with my colleagues so we would create a final
plan. We wanted to create an educational plan that would only include our four classes
because we are four girls but the teachers in the school asked us to make a carnival themes
plan for all of the KG2 and KG1 classes. Our outcome for the lesson was to engage students
and create different physical and fine motor skills activity for the students.
The lesson was for 10 classes, four kg1 and 6 kg2 sections. The activity took place in the
playground at the beginning and then we moved back to the classroom. I was trying to work
on developing my voice tone with the students and behavior management, and I believe I
achieved it because of what I felt with the students because I was able to manage them
without the MST in the classroom because she was absent at the beginning of the day and
she came at the last half hour.
That was a challenge for me because we were planning that I would be doing face painting
for the students and help also in the activities but I was also connected to my students
because they don’t have any teacher that would include them in the activities or that would
look after them but I think that I was successful in doing that because I included all of my
students in the activities and I was able to do my task which was face painting and students
enjoyed it so much and most of the students didn’t have a chance because we didn’t have
enough time. Students were positively engaged and they were listening to me at the
beginning because they know we are going outside and we are going to have activities and
they need to behave so we would go outside, moreover that they are already knowing that I
am their teacher and they would respect me. We wanted to relate to prior lessons in a math
concept but we weren’t able to so we changed the plan. Students were well engaged and
they liked the activities that we created so much.
Students were enjoying the activities so much and that was shown on how they excited
were when we had the activities, they all wanted to be involved in the activities and they
were actively observing everything that is going around them. My lesson met my teaching
goals in a way that I felt that I am developing positively in a way that I can manage a
classroom alone without having a teacher or an assistant with me. I was able to start the day
with the students moving from the classroom to the morning assembly and then continuing
up to the end of the day.
In the future we would include an educational theme with the carnival that would relate to
their prior learning. I would also work more on my classroom management so it would work
better also because classroom management includes so many different aspects.
