Torsional Signal Conditioner

Front

The TSCØØ4 torsional signal conditioner from Structural Dynalysis Ltd.

conditions the output from a shaft encoder, mag pickup or Hall Effect
sensor for torsional vibration measurements. The four independent
channels are amplitude and phase matched to allow multiple
measurements on a system for calculating relative angular displacement
(twist, wind-up) or animating torsional operating deflection shapes. This
technology has been extensively field tested in diagnosing torsional
vibration related problems in power train systems.

Some typical torsional measurement applications include:

• On and off-road vehicle power train

• Engine test cell
• Marine systems
• Roll torsional dynamics (i.e. paper mill, steel mill etc.)
• Gen sets and reciprocating compressor sets
• etc.

**
The TSCØØ4 can resolve an FM signal within the following range: 20 Hz ≤ [Cf ± Ma] ≤ 30 KHz
with a modulation amplitude (Ma) of: 1 Hz ≤ Ma ≤ 4167 Hz (up to 72 dB of dynamic range)

Given a mean shaft speed and torsional velocity to be measured, select an appropriate PPR encoder or
gear from the nomogram above. PPR listed are representative of common encoder outputs, any PPR can
be used. Acceptable limits are within the loop.

Options Available

• Signal conditioning options:

– Input isolation; where it is important to have an electrically isolated instrument to
avoid any potential interference with existing equipment. I.e. tapping into a
motor encoder whos signal is used as a control input
– Increased overvoltage protection; the TSCØØ4 has a limit of 28 Vpeak on the
input signal. Variable reluctance magnetic (mag) pickups can potentially
generate voltages well in excess of 28 Vpeak
– Please inquire if you have special input signal considerations
• An optional battery pack is available which uses two standard 9-Volt
batteries
• Two-channel unit also available (TSCØØ2)
