Long time ago, there was a legend that serves as justifiable grounds why the name Magaud got

its name. There were tragic facts and events in cognizance with the environment considering there at
contributing factors why barangay Magaud got its ethno-origin title. Back tract to the history related by
the reliable source, one of the grandchildren of a native Manobo who used to hunt a fished in the area.
Eventually, while he was on his daily routine, happen to encounter a huge crocodile who by change and
in cahoots with the instinct habitat of the said animal, ran and jumped in the nearby stream to escape.
In the coincidence with the rampage, the crocodile happened to strike and push himself for a safety at
the bunch of roots crawling downstream like the tentacles of an octopus. With no hardship at all, the
latter was caught helpless by the hunters.

From the time on, the story was properly handed down from the generation to generation that
the name of the place was derived from a native dialect known as “GAOUD”. Later it was critically
translated based on the story, a stream that has plenty of roots crawling down the stream like a tentacle
of the octopus that served as trapped of wild animals. It is the telltale why Barangay Magaud got its
name.

The area of Magaud that served as a nucleus, was acquired thru barter system with
accompanying small amount from the ancestors of Esmeraldo Alvarez Sr. by the first barangay Magaud
was converted into a regular barangay on November 23, 1973 by virtue of the resolution no. 03 series of
1973 authored by Hon. Esmeraldo Alvarez Sr. Sangguniang Bayan Member of the Municipality of Loreto,
Agusan del Sur, Philippines.
