It was great ma’am.

Mother to Son by Langston
Hughe.
Very good James!
Bret, what had you learned from
our last topic?
( Bret answered)
Ma’am I have learned that in our
life we are facing many challenges
and problems so we should not
think that life is so easy.
Excellent!
Since you learned a lot from our
previous topic, let us proceed to
our next topic, but before that, let
us have our activity first.

B. Activity
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Response
For our activity, I will divide the ( students are listening to the
class into three groups. What you instruction of the teacher to their
are going to do is to think of a activity)
word that will describe the
pictures posted on the board. I
will give manila paper to each
group and you will write the
words there, after which compare
the pictures using the words you
had chosen and write it in a
sentence form. If you were done,
post your output on the board.
Understand? Is it clear to you?
(students are nodding)

(students are now doing the
activity)
(students go back to their seats)

At this time, let us check your

activity.
May I call the representative of
group 1 to explain their worked.
(representative of group 1stand
up and explain their work)
Very good group 1!
How about the work of group 2?
(representative of group 2
presents their work and explain)
Excellent!
Both grouped did the activity
great!
Let us give ourselves a round of
applause.
(students are applausing)

C. Analysis

Teachers Response Student’s Response

Based on our activity, what have you
observed?
(Sam raised her hand)

Yes Sam?
Ma’am, I observed that we
are comparing the pictures
using the words that we
wrote that describes the
picture.
Very good!
Let us give Sam a very good clap.

(students are clapping)

Class, what do you think is our topic
today?
Naddie?
Ma’am, I think our topic for
today is all about comparing.
Very good Naddie! You have the idea.
Anyone?
(Mark raise her hand)
Ma’am based on our activity,
I think our topic today is all
about degree of comparison.
Excellent Mark! You got it right!
Class, let us give him a very loud
applause.
(students clap loudly)
Class, our topic today is all about
degree of comparison.
What do you mean by degree of
comparison?
Ma’am, when we say degree
of comparison, it refers to
adjectives being written in
different forms to compare
one, two or more nouns
which are words describing
persons, places and things.
Very good!
Class, we have three different forms of
comparison. These are the positive, the
comparative and the superlative.
Who can give me the definition of
positive form?
Ma’am positive is the
simplest form.
Very good!
Class, when we say positive, it is the
form of adjective that describes one
noun.
For example:
Mercury is a large planet.
Understand class?
Yes, ma’am!
Who can give me another example?
(Student 1)
Her hair is short.

(Student 2)
The cake is big.
Very good!
How about comparative?
The comparative form of the
adjective compares two
nouns.
Excellent!
Who can give me an example?
Earth is larger than mercury.
Shiela’s hair is shorter than
my hair.
Very good!
Ma’am, as what I have
observed most comparative
forms of the adjective are
formed by adding -er to the
positive form of the adjective.
You got it right! Yes that is true!
How about superlative?
The superlative form of the
adjective compares two or
more nouns.
Very good!
For example class, Jupiter is the
largest planet of all.

Jupiter is compare to all planet, so we

use the adjective largest which is in
superlative form.

Who can give me another example?

I am the tallest girl among

my three sisters.
Yes Jellie? You have something to say?

(Jellie raise her hands)

Ma’am, most superlative
forms of the adjective are
formed by adding -est to the
positive form of the adjective.
Yes! That is true. Very good Jellie!
Class, let us remember that some
adjectives change spelling in the
comparative and superlative forms
when -er and -est are added
respectively. If the adjective in the
positive form ends in y, the y is
changed to i and the endings -er or -
est are added in the comparative and
superlative.
Example?
( Mike raise his hand )
For example, the word “tiny”.
In positive form, tiny
butterfly.
In comparative, tinier
butterfly and
In superlative, tiniest
butterfly.
Very good! Exactly!

Another thing to remember class, if an

adjective has more than one syllable,
the word more or less is placed in front
of the positive form of the adjective in
the comparative form and the -er is not
added. If the adjective has three or
more syllables, the word most or least
is placed in front of the positive form of
the adjective.
For example, the word beautiful, what
should we do? Should we say
beautifuler?

Yes Arj?
(students raising their
hands)

Ma’am, we should not say

beautifuler or beautifulest,
instead of more beautiful and
most beautiful because it has
three syllables.
You got it!
Brilliant!
Class let us observe this table.
( teacher will show it on the board)
Positive Comparative Superlative
Good Better Best
Bad Worse Worst
Little Less Least
much,
many, More Most
some
Far Further Furthest
What can you say about this?

(Bryan)
Ma’am, some common
adjectives have irregular
comparative and superlative
forms. The table gives
examples of the positive,
comparative and superlative
forms of the adjectives.
Exactly!
Let us gave Bryan a round of applause!

Understand class?

Yes ma’am!

D. Abstraction
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Response
Class, why is it important to
study the degree of comparison of
adjective?
It is very important to study the
degree of comparison of adjective
so that we will know the rules and
we will know how to use
adjectives correctly in comparing
things.
Very good!

What is the importance of using

the correct form of degree of
comparison of adjective in a
sentence?
Using the correct form of degree of
comparison in a sentence makes
our sentence meaningful and of
course we can say that our
sentence has a sense because it
uses correct word.
Very good!
Based on what we have
discussed earlier, what are the
three forms of degree of
comparison of adjective?
We have positive form,
comparative form and superlative
form.
Very good!
What is the difference between
positive, comparative and
superlative form of adjective.
When we say positive form it
describes one noun while
comparative it compares two
nouns and superlative it
compares three or more nouns.
Excellent!
So, did you learn something
class?
Yes ma’am! We learned a lot
today.
Very good. I hope that, what you
have learned today will be applied
in your daily living and will be
shared to others.
Of course ma’am!

E. Application
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Response

listening and if you really learned.

positive, 3 for comparative and 3

superlative form of adjective are
used correctly.
(students nodding)
Is it clear class?
Yes ma’am!
Ok! I’m giving you 15 minutes to
do that activity. Your fifteen
minutes start now. Let your pen
do the activity and not your
mouth.

Time’s up! Pass your paper in

front! (after 15 minutes…)
(Students pass their activity
