Major Job Duties and Responsibilities
o Perform analysis and testing to establish the system component design requirements and engine requirements at an
agreed upon interface point using Matlab and Labview
o Utilize system analysis skills to investigate after-treatment performance characteristics. Utilize data analysis skills to
reduce test data, visualize results, and present conclusions
o Work closely with performance engineering and controls groups on overall system development, modeling, algorithms,
and virtual sensor models
o Use system modeling and optimization skills to create control algorithms and calibration methods. This work includes
understanding and predicting compromises such as: exhaust heat, exhaust flow, exhaust smoke, and fuel efficiency
o Design diagnostic and fault accommodation strategies. This includes defining various strategies focused on minimizing
progressive damage to the after-treatment system, after-treatment protection modes, and engine derates algorithms
o Participate in full system vehicle testing to prove acceptable system performance
o Use test design skills to develop On-board Diagnostics test and calibration methods
o Create new tools, methods and procedures for data analysis, testing and tuning where none currently exist

After-treatment Modeling
Work Location:

Application Engineer

manage schedule, testing/analysis, and data delivery.
o Provide engineering support and leadership to the OEM for the Installation Quality Assurance (IQA) process.

appropriate to ensure consistency and quality of installations.
o Ensure availability of information schedule such as CAD models, tech packages, heat rejection to customers

1. Develop Cummins engines to meet emissions legislation, while providing the customer with the best-in-class

3. Conduct test cell and vehicle experiments to determine hardware, software and calibration specifications that best
meet the technical performance requirements of the project.

Emissions Engineer

(Preferred)
o Experience with measurement and control of thermal science parameters (fluid flow rate, pressure, temperature,
humidity, etc.) (Preferred)

legal test procedures
o Evaluate new measurement equipment and offer strategic input for planning capital upgrades at CTC and world wide to
meet future emissions standards
o Maintain emissions application software that analyze engine torque curves, generate cycles, and analyze raw data.
o Manage testing projects such as equipment evaluations round robin tests
o Oversee/monitor emissions certification tests, analyze and validate test data, and communicate and explain results to
customers.
o Promote common emissions measurement, test and data analysis tools and methods and support correlation of different
emissions test sites.
o Select, design, develop, commission, and troubleshoot emissions measurement equipment, methods and software for
CTC
o Specify or approve and validate emissions data reduction methods for corporate emissions databases
o Troubleshoot emissions data quality issues
o Work cross functionally with customers, operations and quality groups to improve emissions data quality and test
processes


Engine Modeling

o Electrical Engineers will complete an 18 month assignment in Electronics foundation followed by a second 18 month
assignment in traditional Mechanical Engineering
o All engineers will complete a 12 month assignment in Manufacturing / Quality Engineering, Customer Engineering or
Service Engineering. An optional extra 12 month assignment can be added in Manufacturing if the first assignment was
completed in Service or Customer Engineering.
o All engineers will complete a 12 month assignment in a product development organization where they will end the
program. After this 12 month assignment, the engineer may transfer to other organizations / roles following Cummins'
standard practices.
o Participate as an active member of the EDP team including leading activities for EDPs, sponsors, and alumni and taking
part in EDP events with support from the EDP steering committee and program coordinator.


Industrial Engineer

o There are two paths for the MDP program. The first is focused on general manufacturing and the various sub functions

Manufacturing, Plant Operations, Manufacturing Technical Services areas, and Manufacturing Engineering/Project
