BLEEDING TEST ON CONCRETE

SB.LAB.PPQ.406.B
Date : 22/10/2015 Rév :B (Engl)
FILTER PRESS BAUER

1. PRESENTATION

• This test measures the capacity of a concrete to retain its water under pressure.
• It can be used in the laboratory during initial tests or on site during production.

2. EQUIPMENT

• Wheelbarrow for sampling

• Filter press (see the figure)
• Filter paper with a specific weight of 100 g/m 2
and a permeability of 2000 l/m²s
• 10 or 20 ml graduated Test-tube (precision 0,1 to
0,2 ml)
• Stopwatch (precision 1 second)
• Hand scoop
• Picking rod (similar to slump test)
• Graduated ruler (precision 1 mm)

3. TESTING PROCEDURE

• Before disassembling the cell, check that the valve of the pressure regulator is closed,
as well as the black purge (horizontal position). Remove the gas cartridge with caution
before opening the cell.
• Place the sieve, the filter paper and the joint rubber in the base of the cell,
• Assemble the base and the body of the cell, and fill with concrete in two layers (rod 5
times per layer). The level of concrete must be 1 cm below the upper edge of the
cylinder.
• Place the unit on its support,
• Add the top and secure with screws,
• Put the test-tube under the cell,
• Apply a pressure of 5 bars by striking the gas cartridge and by gently opening the
valve of the pressure regulator (pressure rise in 30 seconds),
• Start the stopwatch as soon as the pressure starts to rise,
• Measure the filtrate after 5 minutes. Round the results to the ml,
• Close the valve of the pressure regulator and open the black purge (vertical position),
• Open the cell.
