We are planning to enhance our cookie tool to allow users to more easily change

One of the rights is a right to be informed, which means we have to give you even
more information than we do now about the way in which we use, share and store
your personal information.
This means that we will be publishing a new privacy notice so you can access this
information, along with information about the increased rights you have in relation to
the information we hold on you and the legal basis on which we are using it.

Students who enrol on to any of our Free Trial courses will need to enter their name
and email address.
These data are required to only create the student’s account as well as for us to
send you three “time-triggered” emails over the first three days - you can
unsubscribe from these emails at any time. The three emails’ subject and their
contents are:
- Welcome to your Free Trial course with BSLcourses.co.uk: this explains what to
expect on your Free Trial course and how to get started;
- Your video classes: this explains how video classes work, asks how you’re getting
on with them and the benefits of these videos on your student account for
accessibilitiy anytime, anywhere;
- Quiz and your free tutorial: again, it asks how you’re getting on and encourages
students to book their free tutorial to receive free practice and feedback from a BSL
teacher.
Otherwise, we do not use these details for any other purposes nor do we share them
to any third parties.
The student will not be subscribed to the newsletter or discount emails unless they
opted in by ticking the tick box on the registration form then double opting in from a
subscription email.
We use a third party provider, Sendgrid, to deliver e-newsletters and any promotion
or research emails. We gather statistics around email opening and clicks using
industry standard technologies including clear gifs to help us monitor and improve
our e-newsletter.
BSLcourses.co.uk Ltd uses a third party service to help maintain the security and
performance of BSLcourses.co.uk Ltd’s website. To deliver this service it processes
the IP addresses of visitors to BSLcourses.co.uk Ltd’s website.
WordPress
When our blog is launched, we will use a third party service, WordPress.com, to
publish our blog and any of our conference microsites. These sites are hosted at
WordPress.com, which is run by Automattic Inc. We use a standard WordPress
service to collect anonymous information about users' activity on the site, for
example the number of users viewing pages on the site, to monitor and report on the
effectiveness of the site and help us improve it. WordPress requires visitors that
want to post a comment to enter a name and email address. For more information

Sometimes, we use a third party provider, Hootsuite, to manage our social media
interactions.
If you send us a private or direct message via social media, the message will be
stored by Hootsuite for three months. It will not be shared with any other
organisations. The same applies to any messages sent to and from Facebook and
Twitter. We encourage you to read their privacy statements on the other websites
you visit.
From time to time, we will record telephone calls. The caller will be notified of this
possibility before their call. We ask callers who are not permitting said recordings to
hang up and contact us in various other means, such as LiveChat or email. We use
call recordings to help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our services as
well as for training purposes. No recordings shall be shared to third parties without
prior permission from the caller.
We use Transport Layer Security (TLS) to encrypt and protect email traffic in line
with government. If your email service does not support TLS, you should be aware
that any emails we send or receive may not be protected in transit.
We will also monitor any emails sent to us, including file attachments, for viruses or
malicious software. Please be aware that you have a responsibility to ensure that
any email you send is within the bounds of the law.

We use a third party provider, LiveChat Inc, to supply and support our LiveChat
service, which we use to handle customer enquiries in real time.
If you use the LiveChat service we will collect your name, email address, the
contents of your LiveChat session (‘Question’) and confirmation that you are 16 or
over. This information will be retained for two years and will not be shared with any
other organisations.
You can request a transcript of your LiveChat session if you provide your email
address at the start of your session or when prompted at the end.
BSLcourses.co.uk Ltd tries to meet the highest standards when collecting and using
personal information. For this reason, we take any complaints we receive about this
very seriously. We encourage people to bring it to our attention if they think that our
collection or use of information is unfair, misleading or inappropriate. We would also
welcome any suggestions for improving our procedures.
This privacy notice was drafted with brevity and clarity in mind. It does not provide
exhaustive detail of all aspects of BSLcourses.co,uk Ltd’s collection and use of
personal information. However, we are happy to provide any additional information
or explanation needed. Any requests for this should be sent to the address below.
When we receive a complaint from a person, we make up a file containing the details
of the complaint. This normally contains the identity of the complainant and any other
individuals involved in the complaint.
We will only use the personal information we collect to process the complaint and to
check on the level of service we provide. We do compile and publish statistics
showing information like the number of complaints we receive, but not in a form
which identifies anyone.
We will keep personal information contained in complaint files in line with our
retention policy. This means that information relating to a complaint will be retained
for two years from closure. It will be retained in a secure environment and access to
it will be restricted according to the ‘need to know’ principle as well be in password-
controlled database.
Similarly, where enquiries are submitted to us we will only use the information
supplied to us to deal with the enquiry and any subsequent issues and to check on
the level of service we provide.
When we take enforcement action against someone, we may publish the identity of
the defendant in our Annual Report or elsewhere. Usually, we do not identify any
complainants unless the details have already been made public.

Under the Data Protection Act 1998, you have rights as an individual that you can
exercise in relation to the information we hold about you.

Some services on this website require us to collect personal information from you.
To comply with the Data Protection Act, we have a duty to tell you how we store the
information we collect and how it is used. Any information you do submit will be
stored securely and will never be passed on or sold to any third party.
People who use BSLcourses.co.uk Ltd’s services
BSLcourses.co.uk Ltd offers various services to the public. We use a third party to
deal with some publication requests but they are only allowed to use the information
to send out the publications.
We have to hold the details of the people who have requested the service in order to
provide it. However, we only use these details to provide the service the person has
requested and for other closely related purposes. For example, we might use
information about people who have requested a publication to carry out a survey to
find out if they are happy with the level of service they received. When people do
subscribe to our services, they can cancel their subscription at any time and are
given an easy way of doing this.
If you agree, we will try to deal with your request informally, for example by providing
you with the specific information you need over the telephone.
If we do hold information about you, you can ask us to correct any mistakes by, once
again, contacting the company directors.
In many circumstances, we will not disclose personal data without your consent.
However, when we register students for qualification assessments, we will need to
share personal information with the Awarding Organisation(s) involved (Signature
and/or IBSL) and, if any, other relevant bodies. Before we do this, we send the
student an email requesting said personal information along with a scan of their
photo ID. The student’s permission of sharing their information is in form of providing
it to us via email or in writing to the address provided, below. Photo IDs are kept on a
secured hard disk drive and is used for internal purposes of identification and is
never shared to the public or disclosed to third parties without further consent from
the student.
We encourage that you read their Privacy Policies on how they process your details
given by us. For example, IBSL require the following details from students wishing to
do their assessments:
• Leaner’s full name - to register a learner onto a qualification and for issuing
certificates
• ULN (unique learner number) to uniquely identify the learner
• date of birth – an Ofqual requirement
• information on disabilities - to inform the monitoring of equal opportunities and
success rates of certain groups of learners
• If any reasonable adjustments are required during assessments
• Gender – Ofqual requirement
• Ethnicity – Ofqual requirement

The most secure method of sending information would via a document exchange
system such as DropBox or wetransfer - this is a service we can provide where
documents are uploaded to a secure, encrypted server where you can sign in to
access documents rather than rely on emails. We ask that you inform us of your
preference in how we handle your data going forward. If you do not respond, we will
continue to use the unsecured method currently in use for you, at your own risk.
