term on the various media networks available to us today, and how each
medium has its own intended audience and reach.

• Read each of the seven questions below and type your answers out
in Word using Times New Roman font with character size 14. Print
out your work and attach it to this question sheet. Hand in your
assignment by the end of today’s class.

1. Explain why the press has always enjoyed special status in the
United States and Canada.
2. Provide several paragraphs to demonstrate your understanding of
why the media are a powerful presence in our political process.
3. List the reasons television is a dominant medium today but why it is
losing ground to other media.
4. Describe the love-hate relationship between the press and
US/Canadian politicians and explain why it exists. Use local Yukon
examples in your descriptions.
5. Describe the evolution of the print media in the United States/Canada
from a partisan press, to an objective press, to a press that is less
and less published in print.
6. Explain why broadcast (television, Internet) are a more effective
media for politics than print.
7. Explain why the broadcast media have been much more heavily
regulated than the print media in the United States and Canada.
