Teacher Guidelines for Laptop Use

Classroom Teachers should review the RPS Richmond City Public Schools' Staff Mobile
Device/Computer Procedures and Acceptance Form in its entirety. It is important to note
the following statements from that document that apply to this process:

● Staff members are expected to exercise reasonable protection of the District’s computer resources
such as laptops, mobile devices, digital cameras, computers, and electronic data from damage and
theft.
● Staff members will not be held responsible for computer problems resulting from regular school-
related use; however, staff members will be held personally responsible for any problems caused by
their negligence as deemed by the District’s administration.
● Prior to being issued one of the RPS mobile devices and computers, staff members will sign the
Mobile Device/Computer Acceptance Form and agree to all outlined policies.

The following statements relate to the general use and care of laptops and mobile devices and are also
pulled from that same document:

To deter the possibility of damage, please exercise appropriate professional judgment and common
sense when using the District’s mobile devices and computers. Please use the following suggestions:

1. Do not place drinks or food in close proximity to your mobile device or computer.
2. Never smoke near the mobile device or computer.
3. When using the mobile device, keep it on a flat, solid surface so that air can circulate through it.
Extreme temperatures or sudden changes in temperature can damage a mobile device.
4. Always shut down your mobile device when not in use.
5. Always lock or log-off the computer to secure data and resources when leaving your computer
unattended.
6. Use an adequate surge protection device when using or charging computers, laptops, and mobile
devices.

The following statements relate to theft and loss of mobile devices and computers and are also pulled
from that same document:

1. Do not leave a meeting or room without your mobile device and/or computer.
2. Lock the mobile device in your office or classroom during off-hours or in a locked cabinet or desk.
3. Always lock or log-off to secure data and resources when leaving your computer unattended.

The following statements is also from the Mobile Device/Computer Procedure Acceptance Form
signature page:

I understand that all mobile related equipment, stored data, software, and mobile device
accessories provided to me by Richmond Public Schools (RPS) are the property of RPS. I agree to
all of the terms in the RPS Mobile Device/Computer Procedure and the RPS Acceptable Use
Policy. I agree to return the equipment to the District in the same condition in which it was
provided to me. I will provide all reasonable measures to secure the mobile device, computer,
stored data, and/or computer related accessories I am assigned.

Please sign below to indicate that you are in agreement with these statements as they relate to usage of
the mobile laptops and carts. A copy of this signed agreement will be returned to you.
